Week one and already forgetting what I logged

Hi everyone, I’m brand new here and just finished my first week. I’m trying not to overcomplicate things, but I keep losing track of the small stuff: how much water I drank, whether I noted a headache, and if I actually ate enough protein. I started a plain note on my phone with three lines: water, protein, how I felt. It’s already messy. I’m 5’4”, started at size 18, and my main goal this month is just to be consistent. Do you all track anything simple, or do you just go by feel? I’m nervous about askng dumb questions, so thanks for being kind.

Early on I made it way too complicated too. What helped was a cheap small whiteboard on the fridge with five tick boxes: protein, water, mood, movement, sleep. I filled it while coffee brewed, wiped it every Sunday. No app, no phone note. If you’re already forgetting, pick one “non-negotiable” for this week—mine was protein at breakfast—and let the rest be vague. You can add more later. Quick question: are you tracking to spot a pattern, or just to feel less scattered? That changes how much detail is actually worth it.

yo i’m the same way, especially when i’m up till 3 gaming. what fixed it for me was ditching the one big note and doing a quick voice memo whenever i get up for a drink or bathroom break. like “water 2, protein shake, slight headache” then i paste them into one note before bed. also i put a 2L bottle on my desk and just refill it once; way easier than counting glasses. for protein i keep jrky or tuna pouches by the keyboard, otherwise i look up at midnight and realize i’ve had like 20g lol. are you logging as it happens or trying to remember at night? that was my whole problem.

I work nights too. Day-based trackers are useless for us. Try anchoring it to shift times instead: start of shift, middle, before bed. Three phone alarms. When one goes off, type one line in the same note.

Water: count bottle refills, not ounces. Protein: decide it at start of shift, not after. Feelings: only log if something’s off. If nothing’s there, it was fine.

Takes 10 seconds. Better than a messy note you avoid. You on fixed nights or rotating?
