Pet peeves thread — GLP-1 edition

Sep 12 4725 views 72 posts

Kicking this off so we have one place for it — drop a line whenever. No format, no pressure. Be kind, no numbers gatekeeping, and if someone's week was rough, that counts too.

Pet peeve: vague “it changed my life” posts with zero specifics. Details or it didn’t happen lol.

same, i need the weird soda-swap details or it didn’t happen lol

Pet peeve: the pharmacy app says “ready for pickup,” so I drive 20 minutes into town, and the tech says insurance wants a prior auth again. Ma’am, I have errands and a dog in the truck. Also my step tracker counted putting away laundry as a workout, which feels

Adding one: my pet peeve is the well-meaning “you’re so lucky” comment when I order thoughtfully at a restaurant. It is not luck; it is a quick menu check before I go, choosing protein and vegetables first, and boxing half for tomorrow. I also weigh daily but only make decisions from weekly averages, because a salty dinner can temporarily shift things. Does anyone else find weekly averages gentler, or do you prefer to stay off the scale and use how clothes fit?

The pharmacy app saying ‘ready’ when it’s not is my villain origin story lol

Pet peeve: the food police at potlucks. “Should you be eating that?” Bro, I logged the slice, I’m eating it slowly, and my 7-day trend line is unbothered. What gets me is when I then over-explain like I’m defending a thesis. New rule: one sentence max. “Yep, it fits.” Also, why does my scale only spike on mornings I have 8 minutes to get out the door? The drama.

The pharmacy app is just load-bearing anxiety with a push notification.

Week one here too and the pharmacy app already has me refreshing like it owes me money 😅

For what it's worth, my pet peeve: the cafe “quality control” bite. I own a small cafe, and every batch of scones or soup is “just taste it for salt.” By 2pm I’ve had ten micro-bites that feel invisible until I try to log the day and my tracker is like, ma’am, what was that? 😅 I’m learning to keep a tiny tasting spoon and actually count it instead of pretending it didn’t happen. Anyone else in food work have a rule for this? The nibbles are the real boss battle.

Mine: the relative who watches my plate like it’s a suspense movie. I’m fine, Aunt Linda.

Night-shift pet peeve: people scheduling “lunch” at noon. That’s my 3am. I’m not antisocial, my body is just in a different time zone. Same with tracking apps that nag me to log dinner at 6pm. I’m eating at 7am, thanks. On this stuff my appetite is quiet at weird hours anyway, so I go by shift, not clock. If a habit can’t survive a flipped schedule, it’s not a habit. It’s a hobby.

Week one too, and my pet peeve is my own brain asking “is this working?” every five minutes 😅

Pet peeve: recipe apps that define “serving” as if sauce is a garnish. I stopped logging recipes as written and started logging components—protein, fat, carb, sauce—so the error bars are at least honest. Also, social meals get a flat “restaurant multiplier” and then I move on, because auditing every bite at a birthday dinner is not the optimization problem I signed up for. Anyone else keep a standard “unknown meal” preset, or do you just leave it blank and let the week average out?

Aunt Linda watching your plate like a suspense movie set me. Mine: every food app assuming a “serving” is one bite.

Aunt Linda plate-watching is so real. Mine: apps asking “still hungry?” after every single bite. Sir, I’m chewing.

Night shift pet peeve: tracking apps that reset at midnight. My main meal is at 7am. App calls it breakfast, breaks my streak if I log after 12, then acts confused. I set my day to roll over at 10am. Less dumb. Also, 2am potlucks. I don’t need sheet cake whispering to me at 3. Anyone else track on a weird schedule or just me?

pet peeve: logging apps where “homemade chili” has 47 user entries ranging from 90 to 900 calories. So I pick one, immediately feel like I’m lying to myself, and the whole day feels fake. I’m back after regaining, trying to be honest-ish without spiraling, and the database chaos makes me want to log “soup” forever. Does anyone else just make one lazy custom entry and reuse it like a family heirloom? Also, why dos every app ask me to “save meal” when I barely remember eating it?

Pet peeve: recipes with maros per serving but no cooked yield. Raw weight doesn’t equal plated weight; water loss alone

pet peeve: "serving size: 1 bowl." Whose bowl?

the “1 bowl” one kills me. Whose bowl? Mine’s basically a cauldron.

Pet peeve: “just taste as you go” when you work in food. A spoon of soup, a corner of scone, a swipe of frosting — none of it feels like eating, but by noon I’ve had a whole ghost meal. I started keeping a scrap paper by the register just for QC bites, and wow, humbling. Anyone else track the “not a meal” bites, or do you just mentally round way up and move on?

Hi all, week one and the “1 bowl” pet peeve aready got me. My bowl is a casserole dish 😅

Welcome — the “1 bowl” pet peeve got me too; my bowl is a mixing bowl.

The bowl debate from last spring still lives rent-free in my head — someone's was a mixing bowl, mine's a serving trough.

New here too and my “one bowl” is definitely a serving trough 😅

My pet peeve: every “cheap high-protein dorm recipe” starts with “just meal prep 12 chicken breasts.” My kitchen is a microwave, a mini fridge, and a roommate’s expired yogurt. So I made tuna + cottage cheese + hot sauce on a rice cake and called it lunch. Tragic texture, decent protein, cost like $1.50. I now track protein per dollar per shame. What’s your saddest cheap-protein win? Bonus points if it involves a dining hall waffle iron.

my pet peeve: “meal prep” recipes that clearly assume you’ll eat the same thing five days straight or bin half of it. That’s not a system, that’s a hostage situation. Also “add protein” buttons that charge $7 for a tablespoon of chicken. Systems question: has anyone found a high-protein base that actually freezes and reheats without turning into sad foam? That’s the optimization I’m looking for.

Meal prep recipes that assume I want the same sad chicken all week 😅

👍 1

i meal prepped chili once and by day two it felt like a boss fight i couldn't skip 😂

👍 5 ❤️ 1

My pet peeve: recipes that count collagen peptides toward the protein total as if they’re interchangeable with whey or eggs. Collagen is low in tryptophan and not a complete protein; fine in coffee, not my main protein anchor. I log it separately and exclude it from my target. Sharp follow-up: does anyone else split complete vs incomplete protein in their tracker, or am I overcomplicating?

👍 2 ❤️ 1

My pet peeve: “dorm-friendly high-protein” recipes that still need a blender, air fryer, and 45 minutes of active time. I have a microwave, a kettle, and the willpower of a damp sock. Also protein powder is not free — a tub costs like four dining hall swipes and then I use it twice before it becomes sad chalk. Since my appetite got unpredictable, I need stuff I can make in 5 minutes and abandon halfway without ruining dinner. What’s your best microwave-only protein that isn’t just sad tuna? Asking for me and my one clean fork.

👍 6 ❤️ 1

I meal-prepped the same chicken once and by Wednesday I was apologizing to my Tupperware.

👍 8 ❤️ 1

i meal prepped once then ate cereal standing up at 1am, recipes lied

👍 7 ❤️ 2

My pet peeve: “high-protein” recipes that clock in at 7g and act like that’s going to hold me through an evening walk. I’m an empty nester relearning portions for two, and I keep finding “serves 4” recipes that actually serve two normal adults and one hungry teenager who no longer lives here. I’ve started cooking a base grain and a big tray of roasted veggies, then adding a different protein/sauce combo each night—enough for dinner plus one lunch, not a week of obligation. Sharp question: does anyone else flip straight to the nutrition panel and ignore the front-of-package claims? It’s saved me from a lot of sad zucchini “protein” muffins.

👍 6 ❤️ 1

Hi, brand-new here (day 4), so please be gentle. My pet peeve so far: every “easy protein snack” assumes I have a fridge and a blender at my desk. I’m still figuring out what sits okay, so Greek yogurt with a little jam works

👍 4 ❤️ 1

Same. I batch two proteins and freeze half, or by Thursday I'm negotiating with myself over sad chicken.

👍 4

Same. I’ll batch protein but change sauces so it’s not chicken déjà vu by Wednesday 😅

👍 8 ❤️ 1

The same sad chicken is my villain origin story at this point 😅

👍 5

my pet peeve is “just drink water” like i haven’t been running a full soda-swap lab in my kitchen at 2am. sparkling water with lime, zero-sugar cream soda, cold brew packets, etc. what actually helped was tracking why i wanted a soda — boredom, crunchy ice, something to sip during queue — and swapping for that vibe instead of pretending every drink is interchangeable. also why are late-night protein snacks always jerky or yogurt? give me something crunchy and salty that doesn’t taste like punishment. what’s your late-night swap that actually sticks?

👍 6 ❤️ 3

My snack drawer is the only meal prep that survives my kids 😅

👍 5 ❤️ 1

Pet peeve: when I log everything and someone says “just listen to your body.” My body has the emotional regulation of a raccoon near a dumpster and also lies about portion sizes. I still track because the data keeps me calm, but I wish people would stop acting like tracking is a moral failure. Also, why does my trend line stay flat for 10 days and then drop overnight like it’s been holding a grudge? Anyone else’s whoosh come with zero warning?

👍 4

Meal prep for five days? My taste buds filed a missing persons report by Wednesday.

👍 3 ❤️ 1

My pet peeve: tracking apps that make it easy to log food but impossible to log hunger/cravings. I finally just started adding a 1–5 hunger score in my notes app next to each meal, and it’s been eye-opening — turns out I’m often eating because I’m bored or tired, not because I’m actually hungry. Not mad at it, just annoying that I had to hack it myself. Does anyone else track hunger or mood alongside meals, or is that too much admin? 😅

👍 6 ❤️ 2

Night shift here. I prep once, then hate it by day two. Same sad chicken energy.

👍 3 ❤️ 1

My pet peeve: “just portion it out” when I’m surrounded by cafe pastries all day 😅

👍 4

Pet peeve: every tracker resets the day at midnight. I work nights. My day starts at 6pm. So my 3am yogurt counts as yesterday? Streaks and weekly averages are useless. I just log in a notes app now. Sharp follow-up: anyone found a tracker that lets you set the day rollover? Or do you just accept the chaos? Also since starting this, hunger doesn't follow a clock anyway. Night shift already messes with that.

👍 3 ❤️ 1

My pet peeve: “clinically proven” with zero source. Cool, cite it or it’s just marketing.

👍 1

Mine: “just eat more protein!” I’m week one and still figuring out how to finish a yogurt 😅

👍 9 ❤️ 1

My pet peeve: airport ‘high-protein’ snack packs are 90% crackers and one sad almond 😂

👍 2

I weigh daily and I’m pretty zen about trend-line noise, but recipe serving sizes are my villain origin story. “Serves 6” apparently means six people who don’t like food, so I portion it, log it, and someone else eats “one serving” that’s clearly three. Does anyone else pre-log a recipe only to discover the pan is actually 2.5 servings? That’s the data I want—not the 4,000-word life story before the ingredients.

👍 5 ❤️ 1

the blender requirement is why my protein powder just lives in a cabinet, unloved

👍 4

my pet peeve: meal prep recipes that assume my dorm fridge has room for five identical chicken containers 😅

👍 2 ❤️ 1

Right?? I want variety, not a week-long hostage situation with chicken.

👍 2 ❤️ 1

My pet peeve: when you’re finally satisfied after a normal-size plate and someone at the table says, "That’s all you’re eating?" Like, I’m not starving myself — I’m just full. Why is a smaller appetite so threatening to other people? Also, the way every gathering turns into a commentary on what’s on my plate. I’ve started just saying "I’m good, thanks" and changing the subject. Anyone else get the food police?

👍 4 ❤️ 1

Pet peeve: recipe blogs that say “serves 4” but the photo is clearly one sad desk lunch. I logged a whole “single serving” casserole, panicked, then remembered my trend line only cares about the week, not my Tuesday. Also: apps that count a 20-minute walk twice because my watch and phone both synced. Now I double-check before trusting my burn. Does anyone else have a sandard “ignore this entry” rule?

👍 4

Tbh my pet peeve: insurance app says 'in progress' so long my refill feels like a pen pal.

👍 6

my pet peeve: when i swap my late-night soda for a zero-sugar one and my brain immediately goes “great, now you can have a snack because you saved calories” and suddenly i’ve inhaled a family-size bag of chips at 2am. like the swap was supposed to help not unlock a new craving. also tracking apps that don’t have a “i ate this standing in the kitchen in the dark” option. anyone else’s brain do the calorie rebate thing or just me?

👍 10 ❤️ 4

As a nervous week-one newbie, the apologizing to your Tupperware line got me — mine is already side-eyeing me 😅

👍 2 ❤️ 1

Pet peeve: “high-protein” frozen meals where the protein is 18g but it’s 700mg sodium and 9g added sugar. I’d rather eat real food and actually feel full. Also people logging a 5-minute dog walk as “strength training” in their tracker. I lift 4x/week and track sleep; the only thing that’s moved my recomp is boring consistency, not hacks. Curious: does anyone else ignore the calorie burn their watch gives? I set activity to sedentary and don’t touch it.

👍 3

My pet peeve: “kid-friendly” recipes that assume I’ll be a short-order cook. Nope. We do snack-drawer dinner once a week — hard-boiled eggs, edamame, string cheese, crackers. Kids think it’s a picnic, I get protein without a fight. Anyone else have a snack drawer item that actually fills you up and doesn’t get stolen by the kids?

👍 6

Honestly, hi everyone, brand new here and still figuring out week one. My pet peeve so far: restaurant portions that assume I want a full entrée when I really want five bites and a lot of water. I feel bad wasting food, and asking for a box before I start feels oddly embarrassing. Is there a polite way to order a half portion or an app as a meal without making it weird? Sorry, tiny question—just curious what works for others.

👍 2

My pet peeve: recipes that say “serves 4” but the protein count assumes you’re slicing one chicken breast into four paper-thin medallions. That’s not a serving, that’s a rumor. I’m in maintenance now and still weigh portions because of this nonsense. Also, any “high-protein” soup that’s basically broth with one sad lentil floating around. Curious — does anyone else have a recipe-math pet peeve that always gets them?

👍 4 ❤️ 1

Pet peeve: “just pep ahead” while my toddler uses the snack drawer as a step stool 😅

👍 2 ❤️ 1

my pet peeve: “just meal prep!” like my Tupperware and I aren’t already in couples counseling.

👍 3

Honestly, hi everyone, brand-new member and only on week one, so please be gentle. My pet peeve so far: tracking apps that nag me to log every ounce of water, but then let me completely forget to log dinner without a peep. Also, reheated fish in the office microwave has become my villain origin story — I opened the break room door and immediately turned around. Is it just me, or did your sense of smell get weirdly dramatic early on? Sorry if that’s a silly question!

👍 1 ❤️ 1

My pet peeve is the “you’re not even trying” look when I eat a carb in public. I’ve lost and regained before, and I’m back at it, but I’m not going to perform perfect nutrition for an audience. Also, tracking apps that reset my day at midnight—why is my late-night yogurt a new moral crisis? I just want one continuous day, not a Cinderella deadline.

Pet peeve: treating one noisy day like a plot twist. The tred line has seen worse 😌

👍 2

My pet peeve: “just eat more protein” while I’m still chewing yesterday’s chicken.

👍 1

ngl my body is the teammate that afks mid-match the second i try to read hunger cues lol

my pet peeve: recipes that assume I’ll eat a peaceful plate at 6pm. In my house dinner is a relay race — someone needs ketchup, someone hates the texture, someone’s on my lap. By the time I sit down my appetite’s basically clocked out, and I’ve been “tracking” by memory. My snack drawer is the only reliable thing: shelf-stable yogurt pouches, turkey sticks, roasted chickpeas. If I get one before the kids find it, it counts. Does anyone else keep a decoy drawer? I put the “meh” snacks in front and hide the good protein ones behind the cereal boxes.

👍 1 ❤️ 1

Pet peeve: the “you’ll gain it all back” prophets who camp out in every milestone thread. Like, okay. I’ve been here since 2022 and watched enough of those threads to know the folks who last are usually the boring oes — same baseline, slow adjustments, no Monday reinvention. Concrete thing I do: track protein and steps, not every bite, plus monthly photos. It keeps me from spiraling when the scale does its flat-then-drop thing. Anyone else have one non-scale marker they refuse to give up?
