Did this once before — 40 pounds down in 2023, then a rough year and 25 of it found me again. Started back up five weeks ago and I'm down 6, which I'll happily take. But the tiredness this time is something else. I used to knock out a 45-minute walk after work; now I'm flat on the couch by 3pm and half-asleep before my kid's bedtime story ends. Canceled two gym sessions this week and ate crackers for dinner because standing up felt like a whole project. Trying to front-load protein and actually drink the water instead of just carrying the bottle around like a purse, but wow. Anyone else hit a wall around weeks 4–6 and have it ease up? Not after a pep talk, just want to know if I should keep white-knuckling it or if my body is trying to tell me something.
Week four and I'm napping like it's my job
Honestly, Four weeks in was my sleepiest stretch too — felt like my body was renegotiating the whole deal. I’m maintaining now, and when the 3pm wall hits, I track hours slept, first meal, water, and whether I moved earlier in the day. For me the crash was usually under-eating at breakfast and saving everything for dinner. A 10-minute walk after lunch and a real protein-heavy breakfast helped more than another coffee. Sharp question: are you fueling earlier, or mostly back-loading calories? Also, could you move your walk to before the 3pm slump instead of after work? This phase passed for me, but it was annoying.
Honestly, Oof, the week four wall is real. When I restarted, weeks 3–5 were exactly this: fine in the morning, useless by mid-afternoon. I stopped trying to force the old 45-minute after-work walk and switched to 10 minutes of daylight right after lunch, plus a 15-minute timer nap if I truly hit the wall. I also tracked protein at breakfast—if I was under ~30g, my energy tanked. Six pounds in five weeks is a great trend-line, especially with a regain history. The scale noise doesn’t scare me; the fatigue does. Are you eating enough earlier in the day, or is it more sleep debt from the rough year?
Tbh Hi, I'm brand new here — only day 3 of week one, so I don't have wisdom yet, but this thread is so helpful. One small thing I'm trying: I jot down my sleep hours and what time I eat breakfast/lunch, plus when the slump hits. So far my 3pm crash lines up more with a 5.5-hour night than anything else. Did your tiredness start when your appetite really dropped, or was it already there? Also, are you getting any movement in before work instead of after? I'm nervous about the fatigue, so I'm taking notes. Thanks for sharing — hope it lifts soon.
Hi! I’m brand new — only day five — so I don’t have answers, just a nervous question. I’ve already started tracking my afternoon energy against two things: how much protein I get at breakfast and whether I actually slept well the night before. Did your 3pm couch crash show up on good-sleep days too, or was it worse after rough nights? Also, was it more physical heaviness or brain fog? Trying to figure out what to watch for before I hit that stretch. Thanks!
I’m in the regain-and-restart club too. What finally gave me a clue was tracking my afternoon energy against what I ate at lunch. I was doing a tiny lunch, then crashing hard. A bigger protein lunch + 10 minutes outside at 2pm (not a workout, just daylight) made the 3pm couch magnet less brutal. Not perfect, but noticeable. Are you tracking anything like that, or just going by feel? I know for me “just going by feel” is how I ended up back here.
Not dismissing the week-4 thing, but the 3pm flatline was a red flag for me on my restart. I was hitting protein at night and skimping earlier. Shifted to 40g at breakfast, 40 at lunch, plus a 10-min walk in daylight around 1:30. Also moved
Oof, the 3pm couch magnet is real. Something that helped me when I restarted: I stopped trying to force the old 45-min after-work walk and switched to a 10-min loop right after lunch, plus a protein-forward snack around 2. Weirdly, the tiny walk + food earlier in the day did more for my evening energy than caffeine. I also jot a 1–5 energy score next to my weight trend, and weeks 3–5 looked terrible on energy but fine on trend. How’s your sleep quality overnight, though? Are you waking a lot, or is it more just daytime dragging?
the 3pm couch vortex got me too. what helped was tracking actual sleep, not just bedtime — i’m a late-night gamer and kept telling myself i got 7h, but my watch said 5h40 avg. cut the “one more match” at 12:15, controller out of the room, and started a 15-min walk right when i get home before i sit down. week 4 still sucked but the 3pm crash eased by like 30%. if you haven’t, log sleep + when the slump hits for 5 days, sometimes the pattern is stupid obvious. what time are you actually falling asleep vs getting in bed?
I restarted too, and the fatigue caught me off guard. For me, the hidden issue was sleep quality, not just hours. My watch showed I was waking up 6–8 times a night, so I started logging actual sleep instead of time in bed. I also moved my walk to right after breakfast instead of after work. After about a week, the afternoon slump was less brutal. Still tired, just less zombie. Are you sleeping through the night, or is that a mess too?
