Down 80 pounds and my small-town pharmacy knows me now

thirteen months in and I hit 80 pounds gone this morning. I actually made my husband look at the scale twice because I didn't believe it.

What's funny is the small stuff nobody warns you about. I walked into our little pharmacy downtown for my refill and the gal behind the counter said, "Honey, you're gonna need a new insurance card photo." Then I went home and tried on a pair of jeans from the back of the closet — size 22, now a 12. I sat on the floor and cried a little, then laughed at myself.

Insurance was the annoying part. We had to redo the prior authorization in January and I spent two weeks calling the number on the back of my card, being real polite, taking notes. Worth it, but mercy.

Habits that stuck: a two-mile loop past the grain elevator three evenings a week, and a protein shake before I leave the house so I don't come home ravenous.

Anyone else have their pharmacy staff cheering them on? Ours is basically my second family now.

grats! the insurance card photo thing is so real. i finally replaced my license after like a year and the dmv lady went “that’s you?” lmao. my weird one was my gaming chair. the armrests used to dig into my thighs during long raids and now i can actually cross my legs without the whole thing tipping. also swapped my nightly mountain dew for dollar store sparkling water + those little flavor squirt things, and my late night snacking basically vanished because i’m too busy chugging fizzy water. did you keep any soda at all or go full cold turkey? i still have one diet root beer on fridays.

For what it's worth, The temperature thing got me—I used to be a human furnace and now I’m stealing cardigans at 68 degrees. I’ve also started a note on my phone called “small wins” with stuff like rings spinning, no knee ache on stairs, sleeping through the night. It keeps me grounded when the scale is boring. Does the

Congrats! The small-town wake-up calls are wild. I hit 55 down and my pharmacy tech started writing "small bag" on my pickup slip before I even get to the counter—saves her a trip to the back. The one that got me was my winter coat. I put it on last week and looked like a kid playing dress-up; my husband said I should donate it to the scarecrow. 😂 Have you had a clothing moment like that yet? I’m weirdly nervous to buy a new one because I don’t trust my own size anymore.

okay but the pharmacy knowing you is one thing — my dorm dining hall lady knows me now. She started calling me "extra chicken girl" because I get the grilled stuff twice and skip the fries, and honestly I've never been so proud and so embarrassed at the same time. My meal plan swipe stretches way further than my old late-night ramen habit did, which is the only budget win here. Downside: my mini-fridge is now like 60% Greek yogurt and hard-boiled eggs and my roommate asked if I'm "doing a science experiment." Sharp question though — did anyone else's grocery bill go up because you're buying actual protein instead of $1 noodles? Trying to figure out if that's just me being bad at budgeting.

Tbh 80 pounds is amazing! My travel wake-up call was the airplane seatbelt: I used to do the silent extender request, and last flight the buckle had a whole extra tail flapping around. Also, my road breakfast is now hotel-room coffee plus a protein shake I can shake up before the 6am shuttle, because airport pastries are a trap. Weird question: does anyone else do a grocery-store lap in every new city, or am I the only one hunting

congrats on 80! That’s not a small win, that’s a whole new chapter. The weirdest one for me was bath towels—I used to do the strategic wrap-and-tuck, and now a regular towel actually overlaps. Also crossing my legs without negotiating with my knee. What’s one daily habit that’s gotten easier or different for you since the weight came off? I’m trying to focus less on the scale and more on those little life upgrades, like parking farther away and actually enjoying the walk.

Daily weigher here too. The non-scale thing that got me was my car’s seatbelt: I used to need an extender, and now it clicks on the first try. Also, my watch’s resting heart rate

80 is huge. The thing that surprised me was how my posture changed before my size did. I kept catching myself standing straighter because my lower back wasn’t bracing all day. I only noticed because I track a silly note on my phone: stairs, energy, mood, rings. My wedding ring got loose first, months before pants. Gentle follow-up: did you notice any non-scale signal that shifted early on, like sleep position, stairs, or how long you can stand in the kitchen? Those little body cues kept me patient when the scale stalled.

congrats on 80! The small thing that startled me wasn’t a mirror moment — it was crossing my legs under a restaurant table without angling my knee out, and realizing I’d stopped doing “booth math” before sitting down. I’ve also been tracking hunger/fullness 1–10, and lately a 6 actually feels like done, not “keep eating because it’s there.” That cue shift came before the scale moved much. Did you notice your fullness signals changing at a certain point, or did the physical stuff like chairs and stairs hit you first? I’m trying to be patient with the weird in-between phase.

The pharmacy recognizing you is just a lagging indicator. My leading indicator was my car seat: I had to move it forward two clicks because my legs no longer needed the extra legroom. Also found belt notches I’m pretty sure were decorative before. What’s the first thing you had to replace because it became structurally unnecessary? I’m basically running an inventory audit on my own closet at this point.
