Tbh, both kids moved out last spring, and honestly the quiet house was rough at first. I filled it with snacking and a lot of sitting. In June I started walking 20 minutes after dinner — nothing impressive, just loops around the neighborhood while the dishes soaked.
Eight weeks later the scale is down 14 pounds, but that's not the part that got me. Yesterday I pulled a pair of jeans out of the back of the closet and they zipped without me lying down first. I laughed out loud in front of the mirror like a weirdo.
I've also started cooking again, which I hadn't really done in years. Simple stuff — sheet pan chicken, whatever vegetable is about to go soft. Turns out I missed it more than I knew.
Not every week is a win. Some days I still eat standing at the counter. But this feels like a direction now instead of a stall.
Anyone else find the non-scale stuff lands harder than the number?
