My trend line finally crossed the line I picked

Weighed in at 164.8 this morning, which puts my 7-day average at 165.2 — just under the 166 I set for myself back in January. That's 41 weeks of stepping on the scale every single morning, same time, same spot on the tile, before coffee.

The thing I keep reminding myself: nothing about my day changes because of this number. Same breakfast, same walk after lunch, same Thursday grocery run, same Wednesday strength video I've been doing since week six. I'm not dropping anything lower or adding a second workout to "lock it in." That's how I burned out the last two times I got close to something.

What I am doing is keeping the log. The three-week flat stretch in month four taught me more than any single drop ever did — the average kept creeping down while the daily numbers did their usual chaos. Noise is noise.

Curious how others handled the week after hitting their number. Did you tighten anything, or just keep cruising?

Congratulations on that crossing—it sounds earned rather than lucky. I’m a weekly-average person too, but I also track a 28-day average because my cycle and salty dinners can make a single week look dramatic. One thing that helped me: I don’t move the line until I’ve held under it for 14 mornings and my weekly average is still below it. Curious—what made 166 the number for you? Was it a milestone, a clothing fit, or just the first line that felt honest? Either way, same breakfast, same routine—the consistency is the win.

Congrats — 41 weeks of same-time weigh-ins is the real win. I had to stop weighing daily because my kids’ half-eaten toast and 9pm pantry raids made the number feel like a verdict. Now I do a 7-day average too, but I write it on a sticky on the bathroom mirror and only compare it to last month, not yesterday. Snack-drawer thing that helped: a clear bin at eye level with cheese sticks, grapes, and pre-counted almonds, plus a “not now” box for chips on the top shelf. What’s your next line — another 5 lbs, or something non-scale like waist measurement or jeans? Curious how you pick it without it turning into another chore.

Hi, brand-new here (week one) and this is so encouraging, thank you for sharing. Quick nervous question: did you notice your waist or how rings fit changing before the trend line crossed, or did the scale lead? I’m trying to add one monthly tape measure to my notes so I don’t panic over single mornings. Sorry if that’s a silly question — just curious what came first for you.

Nice. I hit my goal a while back and a single line started messing with my head, so I switched to a 4-lb maintenance zone and added one non-scale anchor: same jeans every Friday morning. The trend line still gets checked, but the jeans tell me whether the number actually means anything. Now that 166 is crossed, are you keeping it as a ceiling, or treating it as a checkpoint and picking a new “normal” range?
