Line cook brain vs. this new appetite is a strange combo. I own a small cafe — nine years now — and my whole day used to be "quality control" nibbles: a spoon of soup, a corner of brownie, half a muffin that didn't sell. I genuinely thought I'd never be able to work around food like this.
Six weeks in, and Tuesday I boxed up the day-old scones without eating a single one. That has literally never happened. Last month I'd have had two while wrapping. Now I taste one small spoon of soup for salt and I'm done — no tug to keep going back.
The odd part isn't the less hunger. It's that the food noise in my own kitchen, which is basically my job, got quieter. I still love feeding people. I just don't feel like I'm fighting the tray anymore.
Anyone else work in food and notice the "one bite while prepping" habit just... evaporate?
