I'm 54, our youngest left for college in August, and I spent the first couple of months aimlessly rearranging furniture and not much else. Around week three I started walking a 2-mile loop through the neighborhood every morning before coffee, and I finally learned to cook for two instead of four without making a mountain of leftovers.
Along the way I had to find someone to guide the medical side of this, and honestly that part was more frustrating than the walking. The first two offices felt like they were reading from a script and barely looked up. The third one asked about my knees, my sleep, and what I actually eat on a Tuesday. That difference mattered more than I expected.
For those of you who've been at this a while — what made you feel comfortable with the person you chose? Was it a question they asked, or something else entirely?
