How Reconstitution Works
- Determine concentration: Divide peptide amount (mg) by diluent volume (mL). E.g., 5 mg ÷ 2 mL = 2.5 mg/mL = 2,500 mcg/mL
- Calculate draw volume: Divide your dose (mcg) by concentration (mcg/mL) to get mL to draw
- Convert to syringe units: Multiply mL by 100 for U-100 insulin syringes (1 mL = 100 units)
- Check syringe capacity: Ensure your draw volume fits within your syringe's capacity
- Doses per vial: Divide total mcg in vial by your dose to see how many doses you get
Example Calculation
Vial: 5 mg peptide
Diluent: 2 mL bacteriostatic water
Dose: 250 mcg
Syringe: 100U (1 mL) U-100
Concentration: 5 mg ÷ 2 mL = 2.5 mg/mL = 2,500 mcg/mL
Draw volume: 250 ÷ 2,500 = 0.1 mL
Syringe units: 0.1 × 100 = 10 units on U-100 syringe
Doses per vial: 5,000 ÷ 250 = 20 doses
Important Notes
- Always use bacteriostatic water for reconstitution (contains 0.9% benzyl alcohol as preservative)
- More diluent = lower concentration = larger draw volume (easier to measure but fewer doses per vial)
- Less diluent = higher concentration = smaller draw volume (harder to measure precisely)
- Reconstituted peptides should be refrigerated (2-8°C) — check vendor-specific storage guidance
