Intro: 12 weeks in, my labs did something weird

Hi all, I'm Sarah, 41, I do scheduling at a hospital which means my sleep has been garbage for years. About three months ago I started lifting twice a week and walking most mornings before shift, and I've dropped maybe fifteen pounds and feel genuinely better. Got bloodwork done last week and my inflammation numbers came down a lot, which was great news, but my cholesterol went up instead of down and my doctor just shrugged at me. Has anyone else had that happen early on, and did it settle out or did you have to change something? Trying not to overthink it but it's bugging me.

The CRP drop tracks with the sleep and walking bump, imo. My hs-CRP fell from 2.1 to 0.9 when I fixed sleep, but LDL barely moved.

LDL rising after weight loss isn't rare. Mine went up 20 pts during a 15 lb cut, then settled after I held weight for a month.

Same here, but ApoB is the one I'd watch. Did you change fat sources when the LDL moved?

What changed in your diet? More saturated fat from whole foods can move ApoB for some people.

Welcome. The discordant labs are why I stopped chasing one marker. My CRP improved while LDL stayed high, and my doctor cared more about the trend over six months.

I lost about 14 lbs fast and my LDL jumped too. It settled after weight stabilized.

I had the opposite: LDL dropped on more fiber and less butter, but CRP didn't budge until I added real rest days.

Worth remembering when weighing results: better sleep and more strength are the actual win. Common surprise for people comparing numbers — plenty would take that over a perfect lipid panel at week 12.

Same, but it took me almost 4 months.

The CRP drop is interesting because it lines up with both sleep and training load? Wait, you increased training. In my n=1, hs-CRP only fell when I stopped doing hard intervals twice a week and kept walking. LDL and ApoB rose when I leaned into more whole-food fats for protein. I tracked mine for 12 weeks and the only clear lever was fiber. I'm not saying that's your case, but if whole-food saturated fat went up while processed carbs went down, that combo can show up exactly like your numbers. What does your fiber intake look like now?

Fiber's usually the guess, and it tends to hold up. Common surprise: psyllium and oats, that being the only real change — ApoB down 12% over 10 weeks. Nothing else moved. Which is the part people forget when they're stacking five things at once: one lever pulled consistently is what actually shows up in the numbers.
