Six weeks on iron, still running on empty

Hey, I'm Cara, 41, pediatric nurse, two kids, so tired is my baseline anyway. Been lurking since my labs came back with low ferritin. Six weeks later my numbers look way better but I honestly don't feel much different. Sleep's still garbage. Does the energy catch up later, or am I expecting too much? And what else do you all get checked besides ferritin?

Saving this thread. Week three here and ferritin 21.

At 41, ferritin 14 with normal hemoglobin, the first six weeks were frustrating: energy flat while ferritin climbed to 39. Around week ten, weekend naps stopped being necessary. By month four, ferritin was 68 and sleep was finally less broken. What helped was tracking symptoms weekly, not daily, because daily swings made it seem like nothing was happening. Also stopped comparing pace to people who began at 30. Starting point matters a lot. An 18-to-41 jump in six weeks looks fast by comparison.

Adding a bunch of supplements at once wrecked my ability to tell what helped. One change at a time gave claener data.

What markers beyond ferritin? I ended up checking B12, folate, vitamin D, and thyroid. My iron looked better while my D was still low, so that explained some fatigue.

This thread is making me want to retest sooner. I'm at week four and my ferritin was 19. No energy change yet, so the three-month stories are helpful.

Not sure the lag is universal. Mine tracked pretty closely once I hit ferritin 35. Energy up in two weeks. Maybe it depends on starting point and other labs.

Six weeks is early. My ferritin went 12 to 47 by week ten, but brain fog didn't lift until maybe week sixteen. The lag is real.

Resting HR is a good one. I never thought to log that. Did you measure it same time every morning?

I'd push back a little on fixating on ferritin alone. My hemoglobin barely moved while ferritin doubled, but my resting heart rate dropped 7 bpm. That felt more real.

Patience was the main thing for me. My transferrin sat stayed under 25% even when ferritin hit 50. I also track how many flights of stairs before I'm winded.

Month three? That's grim but weirdly reassuring. Did you change anything else around then, like diet timing or just patience?

Ferritin 18 to 41 in six weeks is a solid jump. Mine went 22 to 38 in eight weeks and energy lagged until month three.
