Am I the only one confused by the peptide hype lately?

Lost about 55 lbs over a year and a half on a GLP-1, then life happened — my mom got sick, I stopped cooking, and 25 of it came back. My size 12 jeans are currently a size 16. I'm five weeks back in, tracking again, walking at lunch, trying not to be dramatic about the scale.

Which brings me to the thing I keep tripping over: peptides. My feed is wall-to-wall peptide talk right now. Podcasts, the gym locker room, three people at work. And every time I look one up, the research goes back to the 90s or early 2000s. So it's not like these just got invented.

Not knocking anyone's choices — I'm genuinely curious why this moment. My half-baked theory is that GLP-1s made a lot of us comfortable with the idea of a weekly injection, and once that door opened, everything else in a vial got a second look. Plus people are hunting for the next thing after all the price and supply headaches.

Anyone else noticing the shift, or is it just my algorithm?

Not just you. “Peptides” is a marketing category, not a protocol. Most of what’s hyped in these feeds is either injury-recovery stuff with weak human data or grey-market GH secretagogues; none of it solves the caregiver-stress/routine collapse that predictably drove the regain. What’s actually clued me in: track a 10-day weight trend, not daily, and keep a no-cooking default like frozen protein + bagged greens. Five weeks is early. Which peptide are people pushing at you? That’ll tell you if it’s even relevant to weight.

Not dramatic at all — 25 back while your mom was sick sounds like grief and survival mode, not a character flaw. One thing that helped me after a similar regain: I wrote a two-line note each night — what I ate for lunch, and whether I was actually hungry at 4pm or just depleted. It turned out my “hunger” was mostly skipped lunch plus no protein. I also tracked jeans fit and energy, not just scale. Gentle question: when the 25 came back, was it mostly no cooking/ordering out, or also sleep and stress? Five weeks in, I’d be curious which one or two routines feel easiest to protect right now.

Caregiving regain is a real pattern, not a character flaw. One concrete thing that kept me sane: I weigh daily but only act on a 7-day rolling average, plus waist at navel. After my dad’s stroke, scale jumped 6 lbs in a week; waist was unchanged, so I changed nothing and it settled. If peptides keep surfacing, ask what measurable endpoint they’re claiming — appetite, lean mass, inflammation? — and whether it’s from a controlled trial or a before/after post. That usually kills the hype for me. What’s your waist trend doing while the scale stalls?

Honestly, the peptide stuff started making more sense to me when I admitted I wanted a lever to pull because everything else felt out of my control. What helped me stop doom-scrolling: I ignored every new thing and tracked just two boring anchors — protein at breakfast and a 10-minute walk after dinner — plus my waist at the navel once a week. Scale was flat for almost a month, but my jeans got less angry. What’s your one non-scale sign that you’re actually back on track?
