Anybody else waking up actually hungry on a GLP-1?

I’m in week 10 and down 13 lbs, and for the first month or so my appetite didn’t really show up until lunch. The last two weeks, though, I’m genuinely hungry by 6:30 a.m. — stomach growling, a little empty feeling, and coffee alone doesn’t cut it. I sleep about 6.5–7 hours, usually have protein at breakfast, and drink water before bed, so I’m trying to figure out whether this is a real shift or just my old breakfast routine knocking. I track body signals pretty closely and don’t want to ignore hunger cues, but it’s also so different from what I expected. Not asking for anything to change medication-wise — just wondering if others have had this ebb and flow. Did your mornings get hungrier around a certain week, and did it settle again?

Same thing hit me around month 3 — early AM hunger, not the all-day appetite. What helped: I started tracking dinner timing and fiber, and if I ate before 5:30 with the kids, I was growling by 6. Now I keep a fridge snack-drawer backup: egg bites, Greek yogurt, or a cheese stick + a few nuts, and eat a few bites before coffee. Not a meal, just takes the edge off so I don’t rad the kids’ cereal. Is your dinner earlier or lighter than it was a month ago? That was my trigger.

Honestly, Ten weeks is still early-ish, and appetite can come back in waves before it settles. One thing that helped me was separating “waking up hungry” from “waking up empty.” I tracked it for a week: rated hunger 1–10 right at wake, then again after 20 minutes and after my first protein. Mine was often a 7 at 6:30 but dropped to a 4 once I was up and moving — so I started with a small pre-breakfast, like half a Greek yogurt or a boiled egg, then normal breakfast later. The days it stayed high, dinner had usually been light or early. Does yours fade after you’re up, or build until you eat?

I’m an empty nester and a data nerd, so I started logging the gap between my last bite and that 6 a.m. stomach growl. Turns out if dinner is before 6 and I skip any evening snack, I wake up feeling hollow. Moving dinner a bit later and adding a small yogurt with chia or a few walnuts made mornings feel more normal — still hungry, but not

I’m a spreadsheet nerd on this, so I started logging my 6 a.m. hunger 1–10 plus dinner time/macros. Mine spikes when dinner is before 6 p.m. and under ~35g protein. If I push dinner to 7:30 and add 25–30g protein + a big pile of roasted veg, my growl moves to 8:30–9 a.m. Weirdly, my weight was flat those hungry weeks but my wast was down 0.75 in, so it wasn’t just “appetite back = stall” for me. Are you noticing it’s tied to what/when you eat the night before, or does it happen even on identical dinners? Curious if your 6:30 is clockwork or shifts.

I get this too, and for me it tracks more with sleep fragmentation than dinner timing. On nights I wake around 3 or sleep hot, I’m growly by 6. Weirdly, if I wait 20–30 minutes and sip warm water, sometimes it fades; if it sticks around, it feels like real hunger. Curious — does yours feel like true hunger or more of an empty/growly sensation? I’ve started noting sleep quality and wake time alongside it, since meal gaps alone weren’t explaining my pattern.

13 lbs in 10 weeks is awesome — that’s a real trend! I had a similar 6 a.m. growl around week 12. What cracked it for me was tracking sleep quality and steps alongside food; my hungry mornings followed restless nights and big walking days, not dinner timing. Adding a solid afternoon snack (protein + fruit) and a 10-minute walk after dinner helped me wake up neutral instead of ravenous. Are your hungry mornings more likely after busier days or poorer sleep?

One thing I’d track that hasn’t come up: total daily protein/fiber, not just breakfast protein. I’m on this class too, and when my daily protein dipped below ~90g or fiber below ~25g, I’d wake up with that genuine growly hunger around 5:30–6, even with decent sleep. Weirdly, adding a high-fiber/high-protein lunch (beans + chicken or Greek yogurt + berries) helped more than changing anything at night. Also, are you sure it’s hunger vs. reflux/empty-stomach feeling? For me, a few minutes upright + water then reassessing separates the two. Curious what your total intake looks like — under-eating earlier in the day can absolutely show up as morning appetite.

One thing I didn’t see mentioned: morning light and sleep debt. When I started walking 20 min after dinner and kept my bedroom cooler, my 6 a.m. growl softened—not gone, just less urgent. Also, my trend line stayed flat-ish even on hungry mornings, so I stopped treating it as a signal that things were off. Are you waking earlier with the sunrise, or is your dinner volume/protein distribution different on hungry days? I’d track that before changing anything.

Welcome to the “appetite came back with a vengeance” club — I hit that around week 11 too. What helped me decode it was tracking my evening activity against next-morning hunger. On days I lifted or did an after-dinner walk, I was growling by 6; rest days, nothing until 9. I ended up putting more food at lunch on workout days, not breakfast. Not saying that’s your cause, but it’s a cheap pattern to check. Are you moving more lately than you were in month one?

not the same timing, but around week 10 my early hunger came roaring back whenever my weekly deficit got too steep — like I was accidentally eating 300 fewer calories than I thought. I started tracking a 7-day average instead of day-to-day and noticed my steps/workouts had crept up too. Once I kept the deficit smaller and added a real mid-morning snack (not just coffee), the 6 a.m. growl chilled out. Has your activity or overall intake changed lately, or is the hunger showing up even on lower-activity days?
