I've run both. My PETG insert fits four 3 mL vials and a desiccant capsule; it stays put but collects dust in the corners.
A bought EVA shell has better latch integrity and a gasket, though the foam started shedding by month three. For travel, I care about thermal mass, not looks, so the hard case wins.
For the fridge shelf, the printed tray wins on footprint. If you've tested both, which held up better - latch, cleanability, or foam degradation?
