Down 68 pounds by treating airports like a walking track

Road life has been my whole personality for years, and I finally stopped treating every terminal like a food court challenge. I'm down 68 pounds over about 71 weeks, slow, boring, and somehow still happening. My routine is unglamorous: hotel breakfast eggs, almonds in my carry-on, rotisserie chicken from whatever grocery store is near the hotel, and a ridiculous amount of fizzy water. I walk the concourse instead of camping at the gate, which has added up more than any perfect week. Jeans went from a 40 to a 33, and I bought a medium jacket last month without a dressing room meltdown. The annoying part is expense-account dinners and tiny airport salads that cost more than my first car. For anyone who travels constantly, what's your best non-refrigerated protein or hotel-room meal that doesn't feel like punishment?

hi, very new here (week one, so still figuring out my snacks and my nerves). This is so helpful. Do you count airport walking in laps or minutes? I have a 2-hour layover next moth and I’m weirdly scared of just

the thing that clicked for me was nver sitting at the actual gate. i find my departure screen, then walk to the farthest concourse and loop back, repeat til boarding. ATL that's basically a free couple miles before i even sit down. also started setting a floor: 90 min layover = 4k steps minimum or i lose the game, kinda like a daily quest. curious whether you track per-trip steps or just weekly total? my travel weeks swing so hard they skew my average and i never know whether to trust the number.

Love this. I hit goal about a year ago and still do the airport thing—but I added a $10 resistance band to my carry-on. Hotel room door anchor, 10 minutes of rows and squats before the breakfast eggs. Keeps the muscle while the scale stays steady. Curious: do you track steps on travel days or just let the terminal do its thing? I found 12k steps in Dallas without even trying. The long game is just stacking boring wins.

Airport hack I use: never sit at the gate. Pick the farthest bathroom, refill bottle, walk back. Adds 2–3k steps and avoids the Cinnabon vortex. Stairs over escalators, moving walkways only if I’m actually late. I log it as NEAT, not a workout—otherwise I mentally “earn” a pretzel and the math stops mathing. Sharp follow-up: do you adjust food on travel days, or just let the airport deficit cancel out the hotel breakfast? Trying to decide if that’s optimization or just overfitting.

For what it's worth, stealing this. I treat airports as bonus zones: pre-security loop once, then post-security gate-to-gate laps until boarding. Best trick is picking the concourse with a water fountain at each end and pretending the train doesn’t exist. My record is 11k steps during a 2-hour DFW delay, zero food court required. Curious: do you track travel weeks differently? Daily goals get wrecked by time zones, so I switched to a 7-day rolling average and the guilt spiral mostly stopped.
