so i’m a couple days from the 3-month mark. goal is 60 lb, and i’m at 28.7 down. the only thing i really changed besides tracking is that i stopped bringing a case of orange soda to my desk for late raids. now i keep a big insulated bottle of cold water with those zero-cal flavor drops and a pack of sugar-free gum. sounds dumb but the 1-3am munchies basically disappeared. i still game until 2 or 3 most nights, so it’s not like i fixed my sleep lol. i’m not weighing daily, just once midweek and once sunday, because daily numbers made me weird. still expecting it to slow down at some point. anyone else find the late-night desk window is the whole game?
My 2am desk drinks were the real problem
Not dumb at all—removing liquid calories is a clean variable. But 1–3am hunger is usually inadequate daytime intake or sleep debt, not just desk habit. Track last meal time, protein/fiber, and sleep hours for a week. If water/gum fixes the oral fixation
Night shift here. My problem wasn’t the soda, it was eating “lunch” at 3am then a second breakfast at 7am. I started pre-logging one 200-cal protein snack for 2am and nothing else. Gum only buys me 20 minutes. Do you log the desk stuff before or after? That was my eye-opener.
Nice work. The desk soda was probably doing more damage than the raids themselves—liquid sugar is stupid easy to ignore. One thing I’d check: are you actually hungry at 1am, or just mouth-bored? When I cut late drinks, I kept a pre-logged 200-cal protein option in the fridge and only ate it if I was truly hungry. If I was just restless, gum and cold water were enough. Also, 28.7 in ~3 months is fast. Are your lifts holding and sleep still decent? If either is sliding, I’d add more protein earlier rather than white-knuckle the midnight window.
