The snack drawer reorg that's quietly working

Stepped on this morning after a week of avoiding it — both kids had a stomach bug and I basically lived on crackers and toast. 199.4. I said "wait" out loud, stepped off, stepped back on. Same number. Started at 237 back in early March, so that's about 14 weeks.

The only thing I've really overhauled is the snack drawer. Top shelf is string cheese, the little yogurt cups, and a bin of cut peppers I chop Sunday while the kids eat breakfast. Bottom shelf is still their fruit snacks and I'm not pretending otherwise.

Mealtimes here are pure chaos, so I'm not cooking separate food. I eat what I make them, just less of it and slower. My 18s are baggy now and I dug a pair of 14s out of the closet and they zipped.

Anyone else get weirdly nervous right after a milestone number? I'm kind of scared of the 190s for no logical reason.

For what it's worth, nice milestone. The stomach-bug week is a weird variable — crackers/toast plus dehydration can make the scale read low, so I wouldn’t be shocked if it bounces a bit once you’re hydrated and eating normally. Still, 237→199 is real.

What’s on the lower shelves? I did a similar reorg and found placement mattered more than contents: clear bin of turkey sticks and roasted edamame at eye level, fruit bowl on the counter, chips relegated to an opaque bin at the bottom. The friction did more than willpower. Curious whether you’re optimizing for protein/fiber first or just visibility? In the trials, protein-forward snacks tend to blunt later intake, but n=1 drawer layout is the real study.

yo congrats on the 199 club, the step-off-step-back-on thing is such a mood. the snack drawer thing is legit. i did something similar but for my late-night gaming sessions — moved the drawer from my desk to the kitchen, and swapped my usual

Congrats on the 199.4 — that’s a big milestone, even if it came after a rough week. The snack drawer thing is smart. I did something similar when our last kid moved out: top shelf got the stuff I actually want to eat (cheese, cut veg, hummus cups), bottom shelf got the “in case of teenagers” junk. What’s going on the other shelves? I’m curious whether you’re pre-portioning or just relying on what’s visible. I also started pairing my afternoon walk with a rule: no eating standing at the counter. Sounds silly, but it cut a lot of mindless handfuls. The drawer reorg might be doing more than you think.

ngl wait, are you me? Dorm rat here with a mini fridge that sounds like a dying lawnmower. My snack drawer trick: top shelf is visible protein (string cheese, tuna pouches, frozen edamame I pretend are chips), and the crackers go in an old cereal box with a rubber band around it. If it takes two steps, I eat it half as often. Also I pre-log the string cheese before opening the drawer, because past-me is a raccoon with thumbs. Sharp question: what’s on your bottom shelf? Mine is pickles and sparkling water, which is basically a hobby now.
