Menu plates keep outsmarting my measuring cups

I can usually pick a decent restaurant meal, but I keep underestimating what actually lands on the table. Last Saturday I ordered a chicken dish that sounded normal on the menu. It arrived with what had to be three cups of rice and a piece of chicken the size of my palm. I ate half, boxed the rest, and still felt overfull an hour later. My weight has been in a long flat stretch, so every restaurant dinner feels like a coin flip. What helps a little: I ask for the box at the start, eat the vegetables first, and skip the bread basket if it is just sitting there. But I still leave wondering whether I actually ate a reasonable portion or just a smaller version of a huge one. How do you all handle the giant plates without turning dinner into a math project?
