Three weeks in and my skull is throwing a tantrum

three weeks in, about 7 lbs down, and my temples have decided to unionize. Not every day, but around 2pm in the library it hits — dull, behind the eyes, like someone slowly tightening a headband. I'm a dorm kid living off dining hall grilled chicken, dollar Greek yogurt cups, and more canned tuna than any human should eat. I thought my hydration was fine: two 32oz bottles a day plus whatever sad brown water the dining hall calls coffee. Sleep is not great, mostly because my roommate's alarm screams at 5:45 for rowing practice. So I'm stuck guessing whether it's the caffeine crash, the screen time, the tuna, or my body just being dramatic about the whole thing. Anyone else get this in the first month? Did it fade for you, or is this my new 2pm personality?

7 lbs in three weeks is a legit win—congrats. The 2pm library timing makes me curious: when's your last caffeine, and what did you eat before? I had a similar temple-headband thing and it turned out I was doing coffee at 8, then just tuna/chicken and yogurt, no carbs, and by mid-afternoon I was basically a clenched jaw with legs. I started jotting down meal times, water bottle refills, caffeine, and screen/neck posture in my notes app. The pattern was almost embarrassingly obvious. Are you eating anything with your tuna—crackers, rice, fruit—or is it mostly straight protein? Also, do you clench your jaw when you're deep in studying? That can sneak up on your temples.

Oh man, the 2pm library headband is so real—are you eating enough between tuna and yogurt?

Systems move: 2pm headaches are usually a lagging indicator. For me the issue wasn't total water — it was sodium and caffeine timing. I was drinking 3L but eating basically no salt before dinner, plus coffee at 8am wearing off right when the library lights got aggressive. Track four columns for three days: time, last meal, caffeine, sodium. If the headaches cluster 3–5 hours after lunch, look at what lunch actually contains. Dining hall grilled chicken + tuna + yogurt is great protein and almost zero carbs/electrolytes, which can make a 2pm headband feel inevitable. What else is on the tray?

yo the 2pm library temple squeeze is my old nemesis. for me it was the caffeine cliff from my soda-swap experiments — id slam a diet dr pepper at 10 and by 2 my head was in a vice. started logging caffeine + water times in a notes app and the pattern jumped out. not saying thats you, but are you doing any caffeine in the morning? also canned tuna every day can sneak a lot of sodium in, might be worth tracking that for a few days. the greek yogurt cups are solid tho.

Oof, tuna + yogurt + lifting had me feeling like a raisin by 2pm too.

Dorm-food twin here. My 2pm temple-headband thing turned out to be a caffeine crash plus basically no carbs or sodium after a tuna-heavy lunch. I started logging when I ate/drank, not just calories, and if I had coffee at 8 then nothing but protein until 2, I was doomed. A real breakfast with some carbs and a salty afternoon snack from the dining hall (pickles, broth, pretzels) plus finishing my water bottle before 2 helped me a lot. Are you eating anything between breakfast and that library slump, or is it coffee until 2?

Library 2pm headband club, I’ve been there. Mine was almost never the scale—it was caffeine timing + skipping a real lunch + laptop neck. I added a tiny note column to my daily weight spreadsheet: first caffeine, lunch time, water by 2pm, sleep, headache 0-3. After two weeks the pattern was stupidly clear: headache days = coffee at 8, no lunch, 3 hours hunched over a desk. The trend line kept dropping anyway; the headaches were noise. Are you actually eating lunch, or is it yogurt/tuna at the desk? Also, is it worse on days you’re in that one library chair? That posture one got me.

not to pile on, but your dorm menu is basically a sodium sampler — canned tuna, grilled chicken, Greek yogurt can stack up fast. When I was losing, my 2pm headband turned out to be caffeine timing plus too little actual lunch, not just hydration. I tracked three things for a week: last caffeine time, lunch protein, and water by 2pm. Pattern was stupid obvious by day four. Have you logged sodium or caffeine yet, or is it mostly guesswork? Also, library fluorescents with no food since breakfast would wreck me.

late-night gamer here who did the soda-swap thing. week 3 was exactly when the 2pm headband hit me too. for me it was caffeine timing — i’d cut my afternoon dr pepper but was still slamming coffee late, so the crash landed right in my 2pm library block. started logging caffeine + when i actually ate lunch in a notes app, and the pattern was stupid obvious. how much caffeine are you running, and is lunch actually enough? grilled chicken + yogurt + tuna is super lean; i was basically running on fumes and a banana/granola bar at 1:30 helped my afternoon skull situation more than another water bottle. not saying it’s that, but the 2pm clock is a clue.

If it’s clockwork at 2pm, track inputs: caffeine amount/time, lunch timing, fluids, sleep, screen time. My afternoon headband headaches ended up correlating with caffeine rebound plus a low-sodium lunch. I log time, ounces, food, and pain 0–10 for a week; patterns show fast. What’s your caffeine and lunch timing? Also quantify the tuna cans/week—worth knowing your baseline. And are you jaw-clenching while studying? That one silently wrecks my temples.
