I’m trying to make walking a default rather than a mood-based decision. Current setup: a 12-minute loop after lunch, phone in pocket, no podcast until I’m out the door. Week 1 I did 5 of 7 days.
Week 2 I did 2 of 7 because meetings moved and I let the I’ll-go-later story win. Week 3 I moved the walk to before my first coffee, which helped more than any step-count target.
I’m skeptical of the 10k framing; it feels more like marketing shorthand than a real starting point. For people who’ve kept this going for a month or more, what specific cue or constraint made it automatic?
Did you use a minimum viable walk, a fixed route, an accountability text, weather rules? If a book or guideline actually shaped your approach, I’d take the citation.
I’m looking for what survived a bad week, not the ideal version.
