Cara here: 12 weeks, trigs down LDL up

Hi, I'm Cara — 38, work in payroll, mom to two busy kids. I've done the calorie-counting thing on and off for years, and right now I'm about 12 weeks into a slow reset: packing lunches instead of grabbing fast food, walking after dinner, and actually going to bed before midnight. My trigs came down, which felt great, but my LDL went up a bit and I'm not sure what to make of it. Not looking for medical advice, just comparing notes with people who've been at this longer. Nice to finally stop lurking.

Welcome, and please post the 6-month update. This is the kind of intro thread I actually follow.

The cheese and nuts swap is exactly what I was wondering about. My LDL is sensitive to cheese, not nuts.

I had a similar 12-week stretch: trigs fell from 160 to 90, fasting glucose dropped, but LDL climbed from 110 to 138. I was losing about a pound a week and eating more saturated fat because I replaced snacks with cheese and nuts. Once I held weight steady for two months and kept fiber high, my LDL came down to 121. The trig/HDL ratio improvement was the part my doctor cared about most. For me, waist, blood pressure, and apoB gave better context than LDL alone. What did your diet look like before versus now?

Ratio went from 3.3 to 2.3 if I’m reading right. That usually tracks with insulin sensitivity improving.

What was your baseline trig/HDL ratio? 140/42 vs 95/42 i sa big shift.

Did you test apoB or just standard lipids? LDL alone misses context whne trigs are moving.

Waist is a good call. Mine dropped 2 inches while LDL went up, which made me stop panicking about oen number.

Unless he changed something recently, the latest numbers suggest still losing. Maybe waist would show it better than scale.

The 9 lb loss in 12 weeks is solid. Are you still losing or mostly maintaining now?

Coconut oil seems to send that number up, at least in the labs I track. Not a doctor, just one data point.

If you swapped butter for coconut oil, my LDL went up too. Olive oil keeps mine flatter.

What did yo uchange in cooking fats? That moves my LDL more than total carbs.

Same here. My trigs halved but LDL bumped 20 points while I was losing fast. Once weight stabilized it drifted down.

Welcome. Th etrigs drop plus LDL rise is fat-loss weirdness for some people. I saw similar around week 10, then LDL settled by month 6.
