Hi from Cara, counting calories since forever

Hi everyone, first post here. I'm Cara, 38, I work the front desk at a dental office and have two kids who treat vegetables like a personal insult. I've been counting calories on and off since my twenties, which is where the username came from, and after my last physical I finally decided to deal with the 30-ish pounds that crept on after my second kid. I mostly lurk and read right now while I figure out what to even ask my doctor about. Glad to find a place where people talk like actual humans instead of press releases.

Welcome. My HDL fell 61→47 during a 20 lb loss, ApoB also dropped. Still not sure which change did what.

Did your carb intake change much? Eggs and olive oil bumped my LDL, not my HDL.

I saw the opposite: HDL stayed flat until I added easy cardio. Lifting alone didn’t move it.

Same lab each draw? My HDL swings 5-8 points between tests, which is annoying.

Not the same situation, but I’m 34 and 12 weeks into lifting plus walking. ApoB barely moved, triglycerides fell 140→95. I wonder if HDL is just a snapshot of fat flux. Did you lose the last 10 lb faster than the first 10?

Trigs fell that much while ApoB stayed flat? Interesting.

New here too. Six months of tracking everything, 18 lb down. Labs showed my HDL dipped around month 4, then it came back up by month 6.

Came back with no changes? That makes single draws hard to trust.

What was your starting HDL? 58 to 44 is a big relative drop for 22 lb.

Mine rebounedd too after a low-fat stretch. Once I added nuts and avocado it recovered. Just my log.

Low fat could explain it, but the olive oil and eggs make me doubt that.

Could be trianing volume. My HDL tanks when I do more than five sessions a week.

I’ve logged this for two years and the only consistent pattern is HDL tracks with total weekly aerobic minutes, not diet. At 180 min/week it sits around 55; at 90 min/week it’s closer to 44. ApoB tracks more with saturated fat and fiber. Your lifting plus steps might not be enough zone 2 to hold HDL. What’s your weekly cardio minutes?

That matches my experience. HDL only moved when I added two 45 min zone 2 sessions. Lifting alone did nothing.

Do you have pre-weight-loss labs? Could definately be your baseline, not the lifestyle changes.

Welcome. Sleep was my missing variable. Under six hours and my HDL drops, even with good fats and cardio.
