My mother keeps nudging me toward peptide stuff

For what it's worth, I’ve been here about three years now, mostly lurking in the weekly check-in threads. My mom called last night because her friend’s daughter started peptides and she thinks I should look into them. She means well, but she called them 'the skinny shots' and sent me three screenshots before I finished my coffee. I’m 34, down 62 lbs over 14 months on a GLP-1, from a 2XL to a L, and I walk 3 miles most mornings. I’m not against learning about new options, but I’m in a good groove and I don’t want to play guinea pig because of a neighbor’s story. I tried explaining that this isn’t my first rodeo — I remember the fen-phen-era worries my aunt had — but she just says I should 'keep an open mind.' Anyone else deal with a parent who keeps suggesting the next big thing? How do you redirect without turning it into a fight?

62 lb is a whole person’s worth of luggage—congrats. The “skinny shots” screenshots would make me twitchy too. One thing that helps me when family gets excited about someone else’s protocol: I ask what they’re actually worried about. Usually it’s love plus a TikTok rabbit hole, not data. I’m a daily weigher, but I only trust my 7-day trend; last week a salty dinner spiked me 2.6 lb and two days later it was gone. Her friend’s daughter isn’t you, and screenshots aren’t your history. What does your own trend line look like over the last month—still heading down, just noisy?

Peptides" is a category, not a compound. Screenshots of branded marketing tell you nothing about mechanism, trial data, or who's actually prescribing. Ask her to forward the ingredient list and whether her friend's daughter is under a clinician's care—not a chat group.

Real question: are you looking to change anything, or just fielding family pressure? You're down 62 lb. I'd protect whatever got you there—protein target, resistance training, sleep—before chasing a new label. What's your maintenance looking like right now?

I’ve had to make a family rule: if someone sends me a new supplement or peptide idea, I ask, “What problem do you think this solves that my sleep, steps, and hunger logs haven’t shown yet?”
