Two kids, one plate before pickup, and the 3pm crash is gone

School pickup, snack negotiations, and the 3pm slump used to end with me standing at the counter eating whatever the kids left on their plates. Last month I started making my own plate at 2:45 — before the chaos — usually cottage cheese with everything bagel seasoning and cucumber slices, or a boiled egg and a mini pepper. Weirdly unglamorous, but it works. I'm not white-knuckling frm 2 to 5 anymore, and dinner isn't a scavenger hunt. My appetite is still low, so "meal" is a loose word; I'm basically grazing in a planned way. Two kids, two different after-school moods, and a husband who gets home at 6:30. The only thing that changed is I stopped waiting until I was starving to figure out food. Anyone else do a pre-chaos plate? What's on yours?

The pre-emptive plate is genius. I used to do the same counter-foraging, then wonder why I wasn’t hungry at dinner. What finally helped was making it boring and portable: turkey roll-ups with a pickle spear, or cold edamame I actually like. I also set a 2:30 alarm labeled “future me,” because once I’m shaky-hangry I make worse choices. Curious—do you eat sitting down, or standing while you pak the snack bags? I’m back after regaining a chunk, and these tiny systems are the only thing working right now.
