A ring I'd given up on slid past my knuckle this morning

small-town pharmacy run, nothing dramatic: picked up my refill, gossiped with the tech about the ice storm, came home and made eggs. I was digging in the catch-all drawer for a battery and there was the ring I had snipped off at the jeweler's back in 2008.

I'd kept it because I'm sentimental and also because I paid for that snip, ha.

I slid it on just to see, fully expecting it to stop at the first knuckle. It went on. Not loose, not tight. Just on. I stood there with egg on the spatula and got misty. Seventeen years of avoiding mirrors and photos, and now a little circle of gold says I'm not the same size I was.

Insurance still makes me call every January and my copay is silly, but today the refill and the ring both landed. Anyone else have an object from before that suddenly fit again?
