just filled my first script, surviving late night soda cravings?

i'm 32, usually up till 2-3am playing ranked, and my big thing was a 2-liter of dr pepper most nights. i got my prescription today but honestly the habit side scares me more than the med. last month i tried swapping to canned sparkling water + a splash of cherry juice. went from 6 cans of soda a day to 2, then kinda fell off after a rough raid week. now i'm trying again: fill a 32oz bottle before i sit down, keep cut fruit in the fridge, and eat something actual before queueing instead of at 1am. i'm not asking for dosing stuff, just curious what tiny routines helped you stop treating the kitchen like a loot box at 2am? did you prep snacks before gaming or just drink more water? also how long until the 'food noise' thing felt less loud for you? i know everyone's different, just want realistic stories.

Honestly my raid brain is a raccoon with a headset. What helped was figuring out if I wanted caffeine, cold fizz, or just something to do with my hands. I track it in my notes app: time, game, craving 1–10, whether I’d eaten since dinner. Most of my 1am soda urge was the giant-bottle ritual, not thirst. So I kept a huge mason jar of cold brew tea in the dorm fridge and allowed one can of fizzy cherry stuff if I really wanted it. Cheap, no sugar, still felt like a treat. Rough ranked weeks still break me, so no guru status. Is it the caffeine you miss, or the cold can in your hand?

Tbh that rough raid week is the real clue. What was happening right before you grabbed the Dr Pepper? For me, it was the shift from "trying to win" to "okay, done for the night." I started a tiny shutdown ritual—10-minute walk around the block

Rough raid weks aren’t relapses, they’re data. I hit goal and still keep a 12-pack of Dr Pepper in the garage—knowing it’s there weirdly makes me drink less than banning it did. What helped me at the desk: freeze cherry juice in an ice cube tray, drop a couple into a big sparkling water. It starts mild and gets sweeter as they melt, so one glass lasts a whole ranked session and gives your hands something to do between queues. Sharp question: is the craving strongest during queue downtime, after a loss, or just when the 2-liter is visible? I tracked that for a week and moved my drink setup out of arm’s reach. Made a huge difference.
