Honestly, been around here three years now, mostly lurking in the tracking threads. Finally did a DEXA last Thursday — partly curiosity, partly because I wanted something other than the bathroom scale to argue with.
The number that got me: 31.4% body fat, with lean mass holding at 128 lbs. My scale at home has been sulking around the same two-pound window since early spring, so I'd basically written off the last few months as a stall.
Turns out the stall was partly real and partly the scale being a bad narrator. Visceral fat came back at the 25th percentile for my age, which I did not expect at all. I've been lifting twice a week and walking most evenings since last fall, no dramatic program, just repetition.
What I liked most was having a number that isn't weight. I've kept a waist tape and a sleep log going for a while (shoutout to whoever started that tracking-waist-and-stairs thread months back — that reframe stuck with me).
Not saying scans are for everyone, and they're not cheap. But for anyone whose scale has gone quiet and made them doubt the work, it's worth knowing the two measurements can disagree.
Anyone else get scanned after a long flat stretch? Did it change what you tracked?
