First restaurant meal this week and I panicked at the menu

Hi everyone, I’m brand new here and only six days in, so please excuse the small question. Last night my family wanted Thai food, and I froze at the menu.

I ended up ordering clear soup and grilled chicken with the sauce on the side, then ate about half the rice and felt full, which honestly surprised me. I didn’t announce anything or ask the server for special treatment — I just boxed the rest.

It went better than I expected, but I’m still nervous about sit-down meals where everyone shares plates. Do you decide before you go, or just order normally and stop when you’re full?

I’d love to hear what made early restaurant meals less stressful.
