i’m 11 weeks in and the thing that helps me most when we go out is ordering like a gremlin who has to log off soon. i get an appetizer as my meal, no soda (been doing the sparkling water + lime swap for like 2 months), and i ask for a box when the food lands so half goes away before i keep picking. last friday at a burger place i ate maybe 4 fries, half the patty, and took the rest home. weirdly felt less awful than trying to ‘be good’ and then raiding the kitchen at 1am between matches. still struggle with late dinners tho, because by then i’m not hungry but everyone else is ordering apps. anyone got a move for group dinners that start after 9?

The box-when-it-lands move is genius. My chas version: I check the menu in the car and pick before we walk in, then do a cup of soup + side salad instead of an entree. I also keep frozen grapes and cheese sticks in the snack drawer/car because the drive home is when I’d normally raid the kids’ fries. Do you have a go-to app that actually reheats okay, or do yours just die in the fridge? I’m trying to stop wasting half my meals.
I do a variant: sauce/dressing on the side, then dip fork tines instead of pouring. At a burger place that’s usually the hidden calorie load—fries are visible, aioli isn’t. Also I order coffee with the dessert menu instead of dessert. If I still want it after coffee, we split one. Cuts the autopilot order without making me the weirdo at the table. What’s your move when the table wants apps for everyone? That’s my weak spot.
