Hotel breakfast used to be a three-round event

I'm on the road 45 weeks a year. Before, I treated hotel breakfast like a contest: pastry, eggs, waffle, then wrapped muffins for later. Now I do one plate with eggs, yogurt, fruit, and take an apple for the afternoon. Down 96 pounds since last spring. The surprise is I don't have to negotiate with myself; I'm full and walk away. The only downside is my coworkers now ask why I'm not excited about the waffle iron. Anyone else have a hotel breakfast reset that stuck?

Congratulations on 96 pounds—that is a wonderful result. I travel less, but I use weekly averages too, and hotel buffets used to derail mine. One thing that helped was doing a full lap before I pick up a plate; I decide on eggs, fruit, and plain yogurt first, then if I still want something, I go back. Usually I do not. I also keep a small bag of almonds in my laptop case so the afternoon apple has company. Your line about not negotiating with yourself really resonates. What is the downside you started to mention—missing the old breakfast ritual, or the logistics of packing food? Wishing you well on the road.

The only downside is dangling—what is it? For me the hotel variable is timing: eat at 6:30, hungry by 10; wait until 8, lunch gets weird. So I optimize for protein density on the first plate and grab a backup apple/nut pack for the airport. Also stopped treating “free” as a reason to eat it. That alone killed maybe 400 calories a day on travel weeks. What’s your move when breakfast is just carbs—skip and hit a grocery, or make it work?
