I am twelve weeks in and finally feel like I have a rhythm for eating out. The first month, every dinner invitation felt like a test, and I would either skip the meal entirely or overeat and spend the next day discouraged.
What helped was deciding my approach before I walk in the door. I look at the menu on my phone that afternoon and choose one thing I am genuinely excited about, rather than trying to pick the most virtuous option. Last Friday I had the fish tacos, ate about half the rice, and shared a slice of cake with my husband. My weekly average that week still came out at roughly 1.4 pounds down, which is right in line with my usual pace.
I am now down 17 pounds and my jeans went from a 14 to a 12. Restaurant meals no longer undo a week of steady habits.
One thing I am still learning is how to handle the bread basket. Does anyone have a strategy that feels kind and not restrictive?
