Novo Raises 2026 Outlook a Third Time as the Wegovy Pill Carries the Quarter

Topics: Novo Nordisk, Wegovy pill, oral semaglutide, GLP-1 market, obesity drugs, Eli Lilly, peptide supply, GLP-1 pricing

Novo Nordisk raised its full-year outlook for the third time this year on Nov. 4, after quarterly sales of its oral Wegovy tablet beat analyst forecasts and the company said faster manufacturing output and quicker regulatory clearances let it pull the pill's international rollout forward.

What Happened

Adjusted sales rose 4% at constant exchange rates to DKK 79.2 billion, against roughly DKK 73.2 billion expected. Adjusted operating profit climbed 27% to DKK 31.7 billion.

Novo now guides full-year adjusted sales and operating profit to a range between a 2% decline and 2% growth, improved from the flat-to-6%-decline range it issued in August.

The Wegovy pill was the quarter's standout: DKK 5.39 billion (about $810 million) in sales, up 53% from the second quarter and ahead of the DKK 4.62 billion consensus. It launched in the United States in January and is now sold in eight markets.

Novo says the tablet accounts for roughly 80% of US new-to-brand prescriptions across insured, cash-pay and telehealth channels, about 90% of the UK oral obesity market and 80% in the UAE. Two offsets matter. US sales of injectable Wegovy fell 13% at constant currencies even as combined US Wegovy sales rose 21%, and Novo still trails Eli Lilly, whose own oral obesity drug is taking a growing share of new prescriptions. Novo's shares rose about 4% on the day.

Who Is Affected

  • Prescribers and patients in the eight launch markets, where an oral option now competes directly with injectables for new starts.
  • Compounding pharmacies and gray-market sellers, whose injectable prices were built against branded list prices now under pressure.
  • Payers and pharmacy benefit managers, who must decide whether an oral GLP-1 belongs on formulary alongside injectables.
  • Peptide suppliers and researchers, because oral semaglutide is not interchangeable with the lyophilized powder sold as "semaglutide" in the research market.

Timeline

  • January 2026 — Wegovy pill launches in the United States.
  • July 2026 — A US program offering obesity medicines to seniors at $50 a month begins; Novo attributes roughly 20% quarter-on-quarter pill volume growth largely to it.
  • Nov. 4, 2026 — Third guidance raise of the year; eight markets live.
  • Early 2027 — US launch of CagriSema planned, subject to approval.
  • First half of 2027 — Novo expects availability in more than 20 markets.

What This Means for Researchers

These are financial results, not new efficacy data. Nothing in the quarter changes what is known about semaglutide's pharmacology; what changes is supply, price and the mix of formats in circulation.

That mix matters for anyone buying outside the regulated supply chain. An oral GLP-1 tablet depends on a formulation designed to survive stomach acid and cross the gut wall, which is why a research-grade powder is not a substitute for it and why "semaglutide" now describes several genuinely different products. Purity certificates also tell you nothing about whether a vial contains the molecule on the label.

How to Verify Your Peptides

Third-party testing is the only way to know what a vial actually holds:
