Elena, 44, bakery owner, finally saying hi

Hey all — Elena here, 44, live just outside Cleveland. I run a small bakery with my sister, so I'm elbow-deep in flour and sugar five days a week, and my version of "clean eating" is mostly just cooking from scratch and hoping for the best. Been lurking since winter and finally made an account. The big change this year was cutting way back on wine and getting a walk in before the shop opens — nothing dramatic, but I feel better and the jeans fit again. What I can't sort out is whether it's the booze or the walking doing the heavy lifting. Anyone else change two or three things at once and have no clue which one actually mattered?

Welcome. The alcohol removal alone could explain a chunk of that CRP move. My numbers didn’t budge until I quit nightly beer.

Not so sure. My CRP stayed flat after quitting booze, but dropped once I added 7+ hours sleep. Sleep was the lever for me.

What was your sleep before? Average or target?

8k steps is sneaky powerful. Mine moved RHR more than lifting.

ApoB 92 unchanged makes sense if diet didn’t shift much. Did you change saturated fat or fiber?

I’m about 14 weeks into something similar. Quit drinking at week 1, sleep went 6.2 to 7.4, steps 4k to 9k. My hs-CRP went 2.9 to 1.6 by week 10, then stalled. RHR dropped early and stayed. The weird part: my CRP fell again after I started eating more beans/oats, not after adding cardio. So I’d be curious whether your fiber changed alongside the alcohol cut. That combo is hard to untangle.

Beans/oats gang. My CRP only moved after I hit 30g fiber. Alcohol was already zero.

Did you retest CRP? One reading can bounce around.

I’d bet RHR drop is mostly steps + no alcohol. Mine fell 10 bpm in 6 weeks with just walking.

Walking plu sno alcohol is a strong combo. I saw the same 10 bpm drop, then it plateaued around week 12.

The plateau question is the interesting one. For me, CRP kept drifting down until about week 16, then sat at 1.4 for months. What broke the stall was a rough stomach bug week—lost appetite, slept terribly—and it spiked to 4.0. So inflammation markers are noisy. I’d track 3–4 readings before calling any trend real. Your HR trend seems cleaner because it’s daily data. Are you using a chest strap or wrist?

Chest starp or wrist matters. My wrist RHR is 4 bpm lower than strap.
