My snack drawer saved a dinner

Tuesday got away from me: both kids needed dinner by 5:40, the fridge was half-empty, and I was running on coffee and a very flat appetite. Instead of ordering out, I pulled the snack drawer apart.

I made them crackers, cheese cubes, and apple slices on one plate, then set out a bowl of pretzels for grabbing. For me, I ate a small cup of Greek yogurt with frozen berries and two almonds, mostly because the kids were eating and I knew I’d feel worse later if I skipped. It wasn’t a cute family meal.

It was loud and crumbs everywhere, but nobody melted down and the delivery app stayed closed. My snack drawer is now three bins: school snacks, adult grab-and-go, and “emergency dinner parts.” What’s one thing you keep within arm’s reach on the messy nights?
