My Walk Habit Is Outpacing My Dumbbell Habit

I’m 56, kids launched, and my version of a restart has been cooking actual dinners and walking after breakfast. Before this, I was a sit-in-the-chair-all-day person. Now I do a 2-mile neighborhood loop most mornings, and some days I add a third mile because my legs just want it. The odd part: lifting two 8-pound dumbbells still feels like a chore, and I fade faster on those days. Not dizzy, just not much gas in the tank. I’m not sure if it’s the medication, eating less overall, or simply being new to moving this much. I’m trying to keep protein at breakfast and keep the strength sessions short instead of skipping them.

For those farther along: did your exercise change shape once appetite and food noise quieted down? Did walking stay easy while weights lagged, or did it even out?
