After a full year, my training notebook is the only thing still surprising me

Coming up on a full year of this, and what I keep circling back to is how little the scale tells me now. Down about 21 lbs total, which sounds slow until you lay it next to everything else: squat and bench both up 30-40 lbs on working sets, waist down 4 inches, resting heart rate in the low 50s, and I'm sleeping through the night instead of waking at 3am for no reason.

Protein at 1g per lb, lifting 4x a week, 8-10k steps on off days. Boring. No tricks. I used to roll my eyes at slow-recomp threads and now I'm the one writing them.

Honest frustration: somewhere around the middle of the year the scale quit moving for a long stretch and I almost stopped tracking altogether. What kept me sane was taping my waist every two weeks and watching training numbers climb. With only the scale, I'd have talked myself into believing nothing was happening.

For anyone past the six-month mark — what's your second metric when the number stalls?
