The version of me I expected hasn't shown up

I’m nine months in, forty-one pounds down, lifting twice a week, eating protein at breakfast, and my labs look better. So why do I still feel like I’m waiting to “come back”? Not just appearance — energy, interest in things, feeling like my personality isn’t rented. I keep seeing claims that some peptide or supplement fixes the flatness, but when I search I mostly find anecdotes and podcast certainty, not solid human data. For those farther out: what actually changed for you, and was it time, sleep, strength, therapy, or something measurable? I’m not looking for a protocol, just trying to separate normal adjustment from hype. If you tracked anything beyond weight, what was useful?

Honest systems question: what’s your current deficit and recovery load? Nine months at 41 lb down, lifting twice a week, protein breakfast — that’s a lot of input changes. I tracked mood, sleep, and resting HR for a month, and the flatness lined up almost perfectly with weeks I was still pushing a deficit plus training. Not a peptide-shaped hole; more like an under-recovery alarm. If labs look good but the vibe is rented, I’d want to see what a deliberate maintenance stretch does before adding another variable. What does your sleep and resting HR look like on rest days vs lift days?

I lift 4x/week and have been through the flat, rented-personality phase. For me it tracked with deficit duration and cardio load, not some missing peptide. I did a month at maintenance calories, kept protein high, slept 7–8, and added one extra lifting day; mood and interest came back before the mirror changed much. I tracked mood 1–10 and session energy, and the pattern was stupidly obvious. Sharp question: have you had a real maintenance phase since the 41 lbs came off, or are you still white-knuckling a deficit? That’s the first thing I’d audit.
