What my first-month notebook looks like a year later

I hit maintenance in March, and I still keep a one-page log. This morning I went back to the first page: four weeks, 28 tick marks, and a note about how I thought the scale was broken because it hadn't moved since Tuesday. The real changes were smaller and slower than memory suggests. I lost 6 lbs that month, but I also stopped eating after 9 p.m. on 19 of 28 nights and walked after lunch nine times. The appetite quiet was obvious by day 10; the habit scaffolding took much longer. If I could tell that person one thing, it's that month one is mostly data collection, not a verdict. Now, two years out, I care less about the first month's number and more about the boring routines that survived it. What did your early log capture that you'd forgotten?
