COA batch mismatch: red flag or normal vendor lag?

I've been tracking six vendors for 11 weeks, mostly to learn how to read COAs. One has a March Jano report for batch B2311, 99.1% purity, but the vial label in their current photo says B2405. Their site says same formula, new batch. I'm not asking who to use. I'm asking how much weight you give batch-specific testing vs. old reports. Is a missing current COA an automatic skip, or just a yellow flag? What else do you check first?

Batch-specific or I'm out. Old COA says nothing about B2405.

I'm less strict. I'd ask for the current chromatogram before calling it a red flag.

Asking for the current chromatogram is fair, but if they can't provide it, that's not sloppy—it's a no from me.

What else do you check after batch ID? I look at residual solvents and heavy metals, not just purity.

Purity without metals data is half a story, yeah. I also want the raw chromatogram, not just a summary PDF.

I keep a spreadsheet with report dates and batch IDs, and I note whether the chromatogram is attached. After 11 weeks the pattern is obvious.

The spreadsheet only helps if the report is real.

The spreadsheet approach only works if you know the lab's report format. I used to treat old COAs as fine when the vendor was consistent, but I changed my mind after seeing three sites reuse a 2023 report under different current labels. Now I check whether the report URL changes per batch and whether sample mass matches the product page. It's not about demanding a new test for every tiny batch; it's whether the vendor's records track reality. If the batch ID doesn't match, the rest of the documentation is just decoration.

13 weeks of tracking shows 9.4 lb down and 1.5 inches off the waist, and the one time a new batch label landed on top of an older report, it clicked that a 10-day rolling weight/waist trend is worth more to me than a perfect PDF. Old report plus a new batch label is a yellow flag, not an automatic skip, because vendors seem to

Batch ID mismatch isn’t vendor lag; it’s a documentation gap. I weight batch-specific testing 100%—same formula tells you nothing about the current lot. Ask for the B2405 COA with lab accession number, test date, and matching vial lot. If only B2311 exists, I’d log it as unverified and move on. Does their site let you download the current lot COA before checkout, or only after emailing support? That’s the tell.

Old report for a new batch? I’d side-eye that politely and keep looking.

I’d ask one thing: does the current listing show the actual Jano report for B2405, or just the old one with a “same formula” note? That’s the tell. I work nights, so I log this stuff at 4am when I’m half-dead: screenshot the vial label, batch, and COA date side by side. If the report date is older than the batch, I file it as unverified. Not saying scam. Just lazy. Have you emailed them directly and asked for the B2405 COA? Their answer — or silence — tells you more than 11 weeks of tracking.

I log COA batch IDs in a column, and a mismatch always gets a yellow cell from me.
