My regression line looks smooth and the raw weigh-ins disagree

pulled 13 months of daily weigh-ins into one sheet: 263.4 on the first logged morning, 201.2 today, 62 lbs total. The regression line is the least interesting column in the whole file. What actually happened is four stair-steps — 5 to 7 weeks of nothing, then a 4 to 6 lb drop across roughly ten days, then flat again. Three of those drops landed when I'd changed nothing: same intake, same step count, same two lifting days.

Second thing the sheet caught that I wasn't expecting: my waist tape runs on a completely different clock. Down 6.5 inches overall, and 4 of those inches showed up in months 2 through 5, while the scale was basically horizontal. If I'd only tracked weight, I'd have called that stretch a failure.

So I don't really have a year-long story with a shape. I have a step function with noise on top of it. Curious whether anyone else's data looks like stairs rather than a slope, or if I'm just quietly smoothing over a food log I stopped keeping around month 6.
