My tape measure is doing the emotional labor now

down about 60 pounds and lifting four days a week. Protein is around 180g, sleep is decent, and I’m not doing anything fancy. Some days I still feel exactly the same, which is annoying because the work is definitely there. Then I check my notes: waist down 5 inches, hips down almost 4, and my pull-up reps went from 4 to 11 since March. That’s the recomp stuff I care about, but it’s not dramatic in a day-to-day way. I think my brain just doesn’t register slow changes. Anyone else get more proof from a tape measure or training log than from looking at yourself?

Pull-up reps going 4 to 11 is the real headline. For tape stuff, I started measuring at the same spot—top of hip bone, relaxed exhale, no sucking in—and averaging three readings. Single measurements used to swing half an inch from bloat or posture alone. Also grabbed a monthly photo in the same doorway light; that’s what finally calmed me when the scale went flat for two weeks. Are you tracking waist-to-height at all? That ratio moving while scale stalls is weirdly soothing.

That pull-up jump from 4 to 11 is the least noisy signal in your whole post. In the trials, body-recomp often shows up in strength and tape before the mirror catches up. One concrete thing: are you measuring waist at the exact same landmark every time? I Sharpie a dot at navel and iliac crest, fasted, after exhale, same

Paper towel effect is real. We had a thread on this last winter — the last 20 lbs changes way more visually than the first 40
