My smart scale's body-fat estimate is basically a random number generator

I paid extra for the higher-end version because it promised body-fat tracking, and I’m starting to think that feature was decorative. My spreadsheet has a 12-week log: 7-day weight average down 9.6 lb, waist down 1.1 inches, but the scale’s body-fat number has wandered between 34.8 and 38.2 with no clear direction.

Same time, same morning routine, nothing dramatic changed. I don’t expect lab-level accuracy, but if a metric only adds noise to my trendline, is it data or entertainment?

I’m about to gray out that column and stop checking it. Anyone else paid extra for a number that turned out to be mostly vibes?
