Finally saying hi — belly isn't budging yet

Hey all, been reading here for a while and figured I should actually do an intro instead of lurking. I'm 47, live outside Columbus, and I dispatch for an HVAC company, so I'm parked in a truck most of the day — my step count is basically whatever the parking lot gives me.

My A1c came back ugly in March and my doctor gave me That Look, so I've been tracking food, sleep, and getting to the gym a couple days a week. Down about 18 lb, which still feels fake to type out. The weird part is my stomach — shirts fit better, my face looks different, but the waist tape hasn't moved an inch the whole time. Scale and tape are full-on disagreeing with each other.

Did that happen to anyone else, where the number on the scale drops and the tape just sits there? What finally got things moving for you?

Same here at week 10. Scale down 17 lb, pants looser, tape exactly the same. For me it was bloating and water. Once sleep got better it whooshed.

Sleep is huge. My waist didn't move until I stopped late snacks. Not saying that's your issue, just what I noticed.

Are you measuring at the same time? Morning vs night can swing 1-2 inches for me.

Labs moving that fast at 12 weeks is great. My A1c took 6 months to go 5.8 to 5.4.

I had the opposite: waist dropped 3 inches early, scale stuck. Bodies are weird. What does your strength work look like?

The tape lagged about 8 weeks for me. I think fat loss was happening but subcutaneous water masked it. What helped was taking monthly photos in same lighting, same shorts, plus a neck and chest measure. Waist finally moved after I added two 20-minute incline walks on non-lifting days. Not a prescription, just my n=1. Your BP improvement is a real win, honestly. Also, if your shirts fit better, something is changing even if the tape says otherwise. I also stopped measuring after a salty meal, because that was pure noise and made me crazy.

Check neck and chest too. My waist stalled first.

Anyone else notice the whoosh comes right after a higher-carb day? Probably water, but it messes with my head.

I'm 5-foot-9, started 245, at week 14 I was 222 with A1c 6.1 to 5.6. Waist stayed 44 until week 13, then dropped 2 inches in nine days. I was lifting 3x/week and tracking protein around 130g. The scale actually went up that week. I wish I'd stopped weighing daily. What are you doing for recovery? That made more difference than adding cardio for me. Also, your fasting glucose drop is not small, that's a big metabolic shift.

This thread is why I joined. Four weeks of logging everything — tape measure hasn't budged yet, but the scale is down 6 lb. Definitely stealing the monthly photo tip.
