Twelve weeks in, 19 down, but my CRP doubled

Been lurking since I started walking the dog twice a day and finally quit gas-station food. Down 19 since January, glucose and resting heart rate both look better. But my hs-CRP came back at 2.4 after sitting at 1.1, and ferritin fell from 180 to 70. I'm 44, work nights at a warehouse, so recovery's always been a mess. Anyone else see inflammatory markers spike early and settle later? Just comparing notes, not asking for medical advice.

Congrats on the 19 lbs. That hs-CRP jump could be from the lifting itself. Was your draw close to a hard session?

Adding 3x/week lifting doubled that lab number. Retested 4 days after the last workout, back near baseline. Worth timing labs around training.

The ferritin drop is the part I’d track. Did you change iron intake when you cut ultra-processed food?

Sleep can do this too. Mine climbed during a newborn phase even with no diet changes.

I disagree that it’s mostly training. My hs-CRP tracks calorie defecit more than workouts. Dropped once I held weight stable.

Ferritin 180→70 seems steep. I only saw that after blood donation, not a cut. Any chance of blood loss?

My ferritin fell 150→60 on a vegetarian cut, then recovered at maintenance. So diet alone can move it.

The sleep comment makes sense. My HRV tanked and CRP rose during a stretch of 5-hour nights.

What was sleep like? Mine tracks sleep debt.

Not a doctor, but I’ve tracked this for two years. My hs-CRP rises during any calorie deficit plus a lifting block, then settles 2–4 weeks after I hold weight stable. Ferritin is slower and depends on iron intake, blood loss, and how much inflammation is around. If fasting glucose and resting HR are improving, I’d read the whole trend rather than one draw. I’d also compare like with like—same time of day, hydrated, no hard training for a few days. Single numbers are noisy. The direction over months is what helped me.

The "whole trend" point is key. I stopped chasing single CRP draws and just log monthly. Way less anxiety.
