Coffee tastes different three weeks into this journey

I’m 58, newly an empty-nester since our youngest moved out in January. I’ve been on a GLP-1 for about 10 weeks, down 12 pounds, and I’ve built two little habits: a 30-minute walk after breakfast and Sunday afternoon cooking for the week. The weird thing is coffee. I used to love my big mug with cream—it was my quiet start before work. Now it tastes metallic or just... flat. Some mornings I pour half of it out. I’ve tried cold brew and a lighter roast, and cold brew is slightly better, but my old ritual isn’t the same. It’s a small thing, but it feels symbolic of this whole restart: familiar comforts shifting while I figure out new ones. I’m not complaining exactly—just noticing. Has coffee changed for anyone else, and did your taste for it come back over time?

We had a big thread on this last spring—taste weirdness seems to hit a lot of us around weeks 3–8. For me, coffee went from cozy ritual to “meh,” then came back around month four. One thing that helped was switching to a lighter roast and drinking it iced for a couple weeks. Also, my Sunday cooking shifted hard toward acid—lemon, vinegar, pickled stuff—because sweet just stopped appealing. Have you noticed other flavors changing, or is it just coffee? Hang in there, it tends to even out.

I’m 3 years out from losing 50 and regaining 35, now 4 months back on track. Coffee was my ritual too, and it went from rich to tasting like hot water with a hint of burnt. Switching to a smaller mug and drinking it before my walk instead of after helped—fresh air seems to reset my taste. Also started tracking my cream in grams, not eyeballing. Does yours taste bitter or just flat? And Sunday cooking is huge. Keep going.

Same thing hit me around week 8—my beloved creamy mug started tasting like sweet lotion. I switched to cold brew with a splash of skim and a pinch of salt, and weirdly it helped. I also tracked my coffee fixings for a week and realized I’d drifted down to half my old cream without noticing, whch quietly cut ~100 cal/day. I’m parked on a plateau myself right now, so I get the frustration. Are you finding yours too bitter, too sweet, or just flat? Sometimes changing roast or temp helps more than changing the cream.

Same—my first month, coffee went from cozy ritual to meh. What helped was changing the ritual, not forcing the old one: smaller mug, drinking it after my walk instead of before, and trying a lighter roast. Turns out I still like coffee, just not the same creamer. Also, 12 lbs in 10 weeks is solid; I’d trust the trend line, not the mug. Curious—did the taste change happen around the same time your Sunday cooking habit clicked? I’ve noticed my palate shifts when I’m eating more consistently.
