Found my old progress pic from two years back

Was scrolling my camera roll last night and hit a photo taken on this exact date two years ago. I was 187 lbs, wearing a size 14 dress I'd bought for a wedding, and I remember feeling good that day. Now I'm at 214. That dress is still in the back of the closet, tags on, and it doesn't get past my hips anymore.

The weird part is I remember nitpicking everything back then. Thinking I was "almost there" but not quite. I'd give a lot to be her again.

Restarted three weeks ago. Nothing dramatic — protein at breakfast, 20 minute walk at lunch, actually drinking the water instead of just buying the bottle. Down 4 lbs, which feels tiny next to the 27 I put back on, but it's a direction.

Not really asking for a pep talk. Just needed to say it out loud somewhere. Does anyone else keep a photo like that around as both a punch in the gut and a weird little anchor?

hi, I'm brand new here—only week one—so I hope it’s okay to jump in. This made me tear up a little, especially the tags still on the dress. I have a similar “maybe someday” piece and I avoid it. One thing I started this week: I keep a note on my phone called “not the scale” and add tiny stuff, like my socks fitting better or taking the stairs without sounding like a tea kettle. Sharp question: what was the nitpicky thing you remember thinking about in that photo? I bet it’s something you’d never say to a friend. Do you think you could look at that 187 photo now and just thank her instead of judging her?

Oof, the old-photo gut punch. I keep a pair of “benchmark” jeans, but I also track wist and hip inches monthly because scale + clothes can’t tell recomp from regain. What changed for you between those two years—were you lifting 4x/week back then too, or did stress/sleep/protein slip? I ask because my weight’s up 8 lbs from my “best” pic but my squat’s up 60 and my sleep is way better, so I try to compare the whole picture. The tagged dress isn’t a verdict; it’s just data.

Girl, the camera roll time hop is brutal. I’ve got a sundress from my cousin’s wedding that still smells like the hotel soap and absolutely will not zip. One thing that helped me stop avoiding the closet was a cheap fabric tape and a note on my phone: waist, hips, upper arm, first of the month. The scale was too noisy for me, especially with all the pharmacy/insurance runaround. Have you thought about trying the dress on again but only from the side, no mirror drama, just to see where it catches? Sometimes it’s the hips first, then one day it shifts. Hang in there.

I do the same archaeology, but I log 7-day averages, not single weigh-ins. My “great” photo from 2022 said 183, but my trendline was actually 188–190 that whole month; the 183 was a dehydrated Sunday. So I stopped treating old photos as evidence I’ve failed and started tracking waist + how clothes pull across upper back. Sharp q: do you have the weight entries around that date? If 187 was a one-day low, the real comparison might be less brutal. The tags-on dress isn’t a court verdict—it’s just data from a different trendline.

the nitpicking part is what gets me. I found an old note in my phone from my lowest: “feel huge today.” I was not. The mental tape just doesn’t update with the body. This time I’m logging one non-scale win a day—today it was a 15-minute walk after dinner and not eating standing up. What’s one thing from that 187 era you’d want back besides the number? Energy, routine, how you got dressed without dread?

The snack drawer was my quiet saboteur. I moved the kids’ crackers to opaque bins on the top shelf and put cut veg/hummus at eye level, which cut a lot of mindless handfuls while I pack lunches. Also, I stopped comparing to old pics and take one boring monthly photo in the same leggings, same hallway light. Not glamorous, but honest. What’s one kitchen thing you could shift tonight—snack spot, plate size, or the time you actually sit down?

I’m the spreadsheet person here. I pulled my own 2-year chart after a similar photo jump: 176 → 208, then back to 183, but my 7-day average never moved as much as the raw daily numbers. The date-specific comparison is the trap — same calendar day isn’t same context (sodium, cycle, hydration, even camera angle). What does your trendline look like over the last 8 weeks instead of the last 2 years? That’s the number I’d trust before deciding whether the dress is a goal or just a relic.

I keep a note in my phone from my last good stretch: “Wednesday: walked 20 min after dinner, prepped overnight oats, lights out 10:30.” Not glamorous, but that’s the version of me I’m trying to find again. The dress being tight isn’t the whole story—what was your ordinary day like back then? Any small routine you miss or could borrow back for this round?

Night shift here. Scales lie after a bad sleep, so I use a pair of work pants. Hang them where I see them. If they zip clean before shift

For what it's worth, the date-matched photo gut-punch is real. I’m in a long plateau too, and what’s helped me is a boring “same chair, same Sunday, same awful kitchen light” photo every week. The scale barely moves, but the photos show my waist and posture shifting. I also keep a sicky note with three non-scale wins—stairs, sleep, no after-dinner grazing. It’s not magic, but it stops me from spiraling. Which non-scale thing would actually feel like a win for you right now?
