Loose skin after 60+ pounds: did yours tighten later?

Down 63 lb over 15 months (5'6", 214 to 151, waist 39 to 31). The loose skin is mostly lower belly and inner upper arms. It’s not a surprise, but it’s still weird to feel like my body is a different size than my skin expects. I lift 3x/week and have kept protein around 110–130g for the last 8 months; that’s helped my arms look more filled out, but the crepey texture hasn’t changed much. I’ve read that age, genetics, total loss, and speed matter, and in the trials skin tightening wasn’t really measured, so I’m trying to hold expectations loosely. At 15 months out, some spots seem slightly less dramatic when I’m hydrated and not losing, but not “snapped back.” For those further out—did you notice meaningful tightening between year 1 and year 3, or did it mostly stay the same? Curious what timeline felt realistic.

fellow café owner here — down 72 lb over about two years. My arms firmed up noticeably around 8–10 months after my weight actually stabilized, not while I was still losing. Lower belly still soft and hangs a bit, but the crepey texture on my forearms improved. Monthly photos in the same light/pose helped me see it, because daily mirror checks lie. Also, working around food, I portion my own lunch into a small takeout container before the rush, otherwise I graze on pastry trim all day. Did your loss slow down at the end, or was the last 10 lb pretty quick? I swear the fast finish made my skin look looser temporarily.

Running a cafe, so sampling spoons are my nemesis. Down 52 lb over 18 months. My lower belly and upper arms did tighten a little after the first year, but slowly and unevenly. What helped me see it: monthly photos in the same light/outfit, plus measuring my upper arm. Mornings vs. after a salty day makes a huge visual difference. Mine can look “looser” after a shift of tasting soups, even with protein on point. Have you noticed if yours changes with sodium/time of day, or is it pretty consistent?

Fellow spreadsheet nerd: I’m 5'4", down 61 lb. My lower-belly skin kept changing way past the 12-month mark. I tracked navel skinfold and waist at the same time each morning: 34mm → 26mm from month 14 to 23, then flat for 6 months. Weirdly, the visible tightening came after I held weight stable for ~4 months, not during the loss phase. Are you measuring at the same time of day? My lower belly tape swings 1–1.5" by evening, which made my early trendline look like it was getting worse. Also, has your waist moved at all in the last 3 months, or is it plateauing too?

I’m 5'5", down 68 over ~18 months, and lower belly was my last area to change. What helped me stay sane: monthly photos in the same light/angle and waist measured at the navel, not just the smallest point. At 12 months, skin looked about the same; by month 18 of holding weight steady, it was noticeably less crinkly and hung differently. Arms responded better to slow eccentric work than extra volume. How long have you been near 151? If it’s only been a few months, I’d treat this as data still coming in, not a final verdict.

For what it's worth, hi, I’m brand new here — only about a week in — so I don’t have a big-loss story yet, but this is exactly what I’m nervous about. Your starting stats are really close to mine (5'4", 208), so I’m saving this thread. For the lower belly specifically: did you notice any tightening after you’d been maintaining for a while, or did it mostly stay the same once the weight came off? I’m trying to be patient and not poke at it constantly, but it helps to hear real timelines. Thanks for sharing.

Road warrior here, so my loose-skin barometer is hotel bathroom lighting + airplane seatbelt. Weird thing: mine looks way worse after a travel week (airport sodium, less water, crappy sleep), then settles back 48 hrs after I’m home eating normal. I keep a soft tape in my dopp kit and measure same time, before coffee; the “skin” number moves less than my bloated waist number. Not saying it’s all water, but it helped me stop panic-Googling in Marriott mirrors. Does yours fluctuate with travel/salt, or is it pretty constant? Also, dead hangs in hotel gyms made my upper torso feel less floppy—maybe just posture, but I’ll take it.
