I hit goal about 14 months ago after losing 68 lbs, and I've stayed inside the same 4-lb window since. If I could mail a note back to the version of me opening that first box, it would be short.
The early weeks felt dramatic, then everything got quiet and slow and I panicked — that slowdown was just the normal shape of it, not proof I'd broken something. I wish I'd spent less energy chasing perfect and more on repeatable. My routine now is genuinely boring: coffee and about 30g of protein before I leave the house, a 15-minute walk after dinner, one weigh-in Sunday morning, and a standing Tuesday lunch with a friend who couldn't care less what I order.
What surprised me is that maintenance isn't a finish line. It's the same habits with less adrenaline. I still have off weeks; I just don't quit over them anymore.
For the folks just starting: what are you most nervous about? Happy to share what worked for me from the other side.
