14 months at the same weight and my jeans keep getting looser

Down 118 lbs over about two years, and I've been parked at the same number since last April. Fourteen months. I weigh myself every morning, same routine, and it just sits there between 178 and 181. Some weeks I want to throw the scale out the window.

But here's the weird part — I'm still changing. My size 12 jeans are loose enough now that I wear a belt with them, and last month I bought a medium shirt for the first time since high school. My wedding ring spins around my finger. Gym numbers are creeping up slowly (deadlift went from 95 to 135 since January). I'm walking 8k steps a day and getting protein in first thing, and I think that's doing more than the scale will ever show me.

Logically I know the number isn't the whole story. Emotionally? Still annoying.

Anyone else stuck in that spot where the scale is frozen but everything else keeps moving? How do you stop the number from ruining your week?

Same thing happened to me for about a year — scale didn’t move but my old jeans got baggy. I finally started measuring my waist and hips every two weeks instead of weighing daily. Lost 3 inches off my waist while the scale sat there. Are you tracking inches at all, or just the number? With two kids I can’t do a whole routine, so I keep a tape measure by the bathroom mirror and a snack drawer with pre-portioned almonds, jerky, and clementines. The pre-portions matter because otherwise I graze while making their lunches. If your jeans are looser, something is definitely changing — the scale is just a crappy narrator.

Same thing happened to me after my kids moved out: scale stuck around 173 for almost a year, but my 14s got baggy and I had to size down. What finally helped was ditching the daily weigh-in and doing a monthly waist/hip measure plus one pair of “benchmark” jeans. The number didn’t move, but the tape and jeans did. I also started cooking more protein/fiber dinners and taking a 20-minute walk after lunch, which changed my shape even when weight didn’t. Have you measured your waist or upper arm lately? Sometimes the scale is just the last thing to catch up.

New here and only in week one, so this is probably a nervous baby question, but this thread is so reassuring. Do you track anything besides the scale — waist, hips, progress photos, how a specific pair of jeans fits? I started a little waist measurement once a week because I’m scared the scale will wreck my mood. And when your jeans get loose but the number won’t budge, do you buy the next size down now or wait? Sorry if that’s silly.

Curious — is 178–181 the exact same 3-lb band as a year ago, or has the floor drifted down while the ceiling stayed put? In my sheet I track weekly min and max separately, and my floor crept for months while the top barely budged. The average looked frozen; the bottom of the range didn't. What's your waist at the navel doing? That was the only column still moving for me. If you're not taping, start now — the scale is usually the last metric to catch up.
