Chasing triple digits without letting the number run my day

Anyone else have a goal number that feels more like a taunt than a target? Mine is triple digits — 100 pounds gone. I'm at 84, and I'm saying that out loud because my brain keeps skipping right past it to the 16 still left.

Nineteen months in. Size 22 to a 14, a blood pressure reading my doctor actually smiled at, and I can take the stairs at work without the little pause at the top.

The habits that got me here are boring: protein with breakfast, a 20-minute walk after dinner, and a water bottle I refill twice before noon.

But lately I do math all day. If I lose 1.5 a week, that's eleven more weeks... and then I want to rush, and rushing is exactly how I quit last time.

For anyone who's crossed a big round number: did the stretch right before it feel different? How did you stay patient instead of pushing too hard?

Oof, I feel this. My taunt number was 75 lbs and I sat at 61 for almost five months. What finally helped me was switching from weekly weigh-ins to a 10-day average and tracking waist + how many push-ups I could do. The scale was flat but the tape and reps weren't. It didn't make 75 less annoying, but it gave me something to win on the days the scale was a brick. What's one non-scale thing you're actively chasing right now—not something you've already hit, but the next tiny benchmark?

First, 84 is not a layover — that's a whole trip. I run a cafe, so the “quality control” bites while prepping are my kryptonite. One thing that helped: I stopped letting the scale be the only scoreboard. I keep a note in my phone called “Already Did” with stuff like tying shoes without grunting, fitting behind the counter without turning sideways, saying no to the day-old pastry case at close. For the last 16, maybe pick a non-scale milestone to chase alongside it? What's one thing you want to do at 100 that has nothing to do with the number?

Nineteen months and a size 14 is a huge body of work. I get the taunt: 84 can feel like a B+ when your brain wanted the A+. What helped me was making the last stretch boring on purpose. I weigh daily, but I only let myself react to the 10-day trend. Every 5 pounds down, I add a note to a “receipts” list: a new stair flight without puffing, a belt notch, a resting heart rate dip. The 16 left is still there, but it’s not the boss of my day. What’s one non-scale receipt you’re saving for the 100 mark?
